A few days later, Darragh got a call on his phone from someone he was visibly unhappy to hear from. We watched as his face twisted into bitterness and then regret. He put the phone down, lifted his glasses and rubbed his eyes. "That was your Aunt Clara." He looked at Nelly and sighed.
"Oh, not Clara..." Alexis shook her head. "What did she want?"
"Apparently she's in town and she wants to come and see us for a little bit."
"Who's Clara?" I asked.
"Well..." Nelly frowned. "She's not really a very nice lady..."
"She's stuck up and only cares about herself." Alexis added.
"I couldn't just refuse to let her in." Darragh groaned. "But yes, Clara is... A handful. You'd think that a woman in her early thirties would have learnt some manners by now."
"What does she do...?" I was almost afraid to ask.
"She loves to point out the flaws in people. But she never sees the ones in herself. She's also way too critical of everyone's decisions." Alexis sighed.
"Flaws...?" I looked down at my stomach and felt a sense of dread. Nelly took my hand.
"It'll be ok." She smiled. "We can just stay up in my room. I don't really want to see her. Is that all right, Dad?"
"Of course, Snowflake." Her father nodded. "Leave Clara to me."
"She'll want to see Maruki though. She knows we had another child." Alexis looked to her son who was laying on the floor next to Rainbow the Amaura. "Then she might ask about you, Snowflake."
"Oh..." Nelly thought about it. "If I don't come out of my room she'll think I'm just a moody teenager..."
"No, it's ok, Sweetie, we can just say you aren't feeling well."
"I don't want to lie though..."
"Ugh..." Darragh scratched his head.
"When is she coming here?" I asked.
"About fifteen minutes."
"All right. We'll go shopping." I suggested.
"Huh?"
"Me and Nelly. We'll go to the supermarket. She won't be here for long, right? Maybe we'll miss her."
"Right. Good idea." Darragh nodded. "I needed to go out and get some stuff anyway. Where did I put the shopping list...?"
"I think it's on the fridge." Alexis pointed into the kitchen. Darragh went in and came back a second later with a small piece of paper with a list of items on it. Nelly and I stood up. He handed me the list and brought out his wallet. He produced a handful of notes and gave them to his daughter.
"Thanks, kids." He smiled.
"Take your time." Alexis laughed.
"Ok, see you later." Nelly put the money in her pocket and waved.

We closed the front door behind us and walked through the front garden, past Darragh's car. "So, is your aunt really that bad?"
"Well, I haven't seen her for a long time." Nelly replied. "But I remember her always arguing with Mum and Dad."
"Did she ever say anything bad to you?"
"I don't think so... But it's a sort of inevitability. I know it'll come one day..."
"Hey, don't worry." I touched her shoulder. "Things are different now, right?"
