Chapter 3 - Key to Rage

“I'm fine... I promise...” I said, walking into the living room the next day. Nelly had been asking about my wounds, and I told her they weren't hurting. Which was true, as they had sealed up nicely, and only a slight soreness was left behind. Darragh and Skyra had also been patched up, along with Jirachi, who was sat in Nelly's lap now.

“So... What are we going to do?” Skyra asked. “We can't just let Tobi roam around wherever he pleases.”

“What can we do?” I sighed, sitting on the sofa. “We don't know where he went.”

“Stay away from that guy.” Lydia sulked.

“I wish we could.” I scratched my chin.

“He really doesn't make sense...” Nelly thought. “He says he wants to kill you, yet he walked away like that...”

“I don't know what he's up to, but all of you need to stay safe.” I warned. “If he's trying to get at me, he might just attack you guys first.”

“But why?” Liv wondered.

“Tobi is a dirty fighter.” Skyra growled. “He won't play fair, I guarantee it.”

“Right.” I nodded. “Darragh, you must know something about him?”

Nelly's father stared at the carpet in dismay. “I may have created that thing... But he has an indestructible body... I don't know how to even graze him...”

“Gah...”

“What's worse is the fact that... Tobi was born from the darkest reaches of your mind...”

“Wh-what?!” I gasped.

“He is quite literally the physical manifestation of all your negative feelings.” Darragh admitted sadly.

“So... It's my fault...” I looked at my shaking hands.

“No! It's my fault... You weren't to know... I'm sorry.”

“Do I... Do I really have a dark side like that...?” I wondered.

“No, that's impossible...” Nelly held my shoulder. “You're nothing like him, Toby...”

I smiled at her weakly and thanked her. But I had never thought about having such a dark side that could give birth to Tobi...

Later, I went out to the riverbank. I was staring into the cold, lifeless water, Nelly sat beside me. “You know it really isn't your fault...” She held my hand. “You aren't evil... You're the kindest person I know...”
