Falling. Dropping. Spinning. Whirling. Screaming. The wind battered us from all angles as we plummeted from the sky. Like raindrops, we would hit the ground and splatter, and there was nothing I could do. I held Lydia tight as the tops of buildings flashed past on either side, each window blurring into the next. I didn't dare look down – I fixed my eyes onto her hair as she sunk her head into my shoulder. There was nothing we could do. There was nothing anyone could do. We were going to die, and it was all my fault. The guilt tore into me like a twisting knife. Because of me, Lydia would die. It wasn't fair. She looked up, and the fear in her eyes was all too real. I opened my mouth to say something – anything. But the wind snatched away the words that never came. The ground was approaching fast.

Suddenly I was aware of a movement, far off to the left. A flash of green. I turned my head, and there, against all of the odds, was our saviour. The figure had climbed the tall building on the left, and leapt across the divide. They came within reach, and then an arm was wrapped around us, strong, green and determined. The momentum of their jump propelled us to the right, straight into the building on that side. The three of us smashed into the hard structure, and the crash was bone-shaking, but Lydia and I were protected. I let go of her with one arm and wrapped it around the waist of our rescuer.

Grovyle.

Grovyle had appeared out of nowhere. He had thrown himself across to catch us, and he had slammed into the building on the other side. Still much too high up to avoid certain death by falling, the Pokemon put in a place a plan he seemed to have had from the start. With my arm locked around him, he let go of us, so he had the use of both of his arms. The long leaves on his forearms began to glow brightly, and they sharpened quickly. As we once again began to fall to our doom, Grovyle thrust his Leaf Blades into the hard, solid structure of the building. The blades sliced into the bricks, and began to slow our descent. Sparks and chunks of debris flew out as the blades tore down the side of the building, leaving jagged lines behind. Grovyle winced, trying his best to dig in. He was slowing the fall – but the impact with the ground would still do extensive damage to everyone.

Lydia looked as shocked as I was, and tightened her grip around my shoulders. I held her tighter too, and pressed up against Grovyle. It was time to brace for impact.

Grovyle roared out, and plunged his Leaf Blades into the wall as far as they could go. At the same time, he lashed forward with his legs, scraping his feet into the side.

There was a thud, and we were thrown onto the ground. It stung slightly, but it was much better than smashing into the street from much higher up. I let go of Lydia and breathed in heavily. I could feel the gravel of the road against my face, and the smell of sweat from every pore. But we were alive.

"Are you all right?" I asked Lydia as she sat up beside me.

"I... I think so..." She nodded. Grovyle walked over to us and looked down with a smile on his face. His arms and feet were scratched up, but other than that, he seemed healthy.

"You came back, Grovyle..." I looked up at him in amazement.

"Gro." He offered a hand. I took it, and he pulled me to my feet. He then did the same for Lydia.

"Thank you..." She smiled. "You saved us."

"Grovyle, that was... Amazing." I nodded. "How did you get here?"

Grovyle looked around, searching for something. Then he turned back to us and pointed down the street. There was a boy walking towards us.

Deep blue hair, red shirt, purple trousers and jacket, tied back like a cape. Victor Blayde.

"You...!" I stared.

"Hi." Victor held up a hand in greeting, looking nervous. "I'm sorry about what I did before. I never wanted to hurt anybody." He was sincere. "I may be the nephew of a vile man, but I... I never meant you any harm. I'm sorry."
