Of Commitment (Hessa) - part 18

Tessa's POV

It's Monday and today it's my first day of work. I'm so nervous. I would really appreciate if Hardin would be here to distract me. But he is not. He chose to be apart because of his behavior.

I'm alone from Friday because Alice and Toby figured out everything and she is staying in his apartment.

I get dressed, I put all I need for today in my bag and I go to work.

When I arrive there, I'm greeted by Dianne.

"Good morning, Tessa!"

"Hi!"

"Ready to start your first day?"

"Yes!"

"Let me show your office." We go to a door and we enter in a little office. Well, it's not too little. It's just perfect for me. I like the way is decorated, it's so me. "If you want to make some changes here, go on!"

"No, no. It's perfect for me."

"Good. You have here one manuscript." She points to a book. "You have to read it and then you write a resume and some good and bad parts of this story. And at the end of the day, I want to have everything on my email. There is a piece of papers with your work email, the password can be changed and you also have there, my email and my phone number. If you are not able to finish the book in a day, you can tell me and I can give you more days."

"I understand. Thank you."

"Good. Then I'm going to let you work. Good luck!"

"Thank you."

"Oh, the lunch break it's at 1 pm, maybe Hardin wants to have lunch with you and he doesn't know." She smiles at me.

"Yeah, thanks."

I give her a fake smile and she leaves. I sit at my desk and I look at my phone. On my screen poops up a message from Hardin.

Good luck on your first day at work. Can we talk later? Please. I really want this, love. I'm sorry.

I write him back. I have my lunch break at 1 pm, if you are free, we can talk.

And his response comes quickly. I have a meeting then, but can you come back home after work? I... I can't sleep without you.

And this breaks me and I give up, calling him.

Phone call

"Hardin?"

"Tess... I'm sorry. Come back home, please..."

"I don't know..."

"Please, I want to talk with you. And if you don't like what I'm saying, I will let you go. I will give you the divorce... Even if I don't want this, because I'm love with you. And this is just a stupid fight, but if this is what you want, then I will make you happy."

"Don't say this, please... I want to talk with you, ok? I will come home today."

"Good. What time?"

"I don't know. I will let you know as soon as I left work."

In end the call and I try to calm down. What is he doing to me? Why in just a short period of time, the feelings between us become more and more stronger. And it's so fucking hard to be apart from him, even if he is an asshole! Enough!

I clean my mind and I focus on my work. I read the manuscript and I'm so fascinated by the action in it. While I read it, I take some notes. I don't know when time passed so quickly, but when I'm done with the book it's almost time to go home. Oops, I was too distracted by the book and I didn't know when to stop. It's clear that I can't write the resume today, so I'm going to announce Dianne that I will write it tonight and I will send her everything as I finish. I quickly grab my stuff and I leave my office. I go to see if Dianne is there and I have luck. I knock at the door and I go in where I hear her voice.

"Tessa, hi."

"Hi. I just finished reading the book. It's fine if I send you the resume when I finish it, like in a few hours?"

"Of course! But you can finish it tomorrow, at work. I don't want you to work hard because you are at the beginning and I know it takes time to get used with this. So, take your time with your work."

"Thank you, Dianne."

"No problem. Say hi to Hardin from me."

"I will. Have a good night!"

"You too."

I leave Dianne's office and I go to the elevator. There is a guy who is also waiting the elevator. I just hope he doesn't want to talk with me, because he really seems to be that kind of guy.

"Hi." Oh, shit. I don't want to have a conversation with a stranger. Not now.

"Hi."

"You are new, right?"

"Yes... How you knew?"

"I haven't seen you here. By the way, I'm Trevor Matthews."

"Tessa Scott."

"Scott? Are you related to Hardin Scott?"

"Yeah, I am. I'm his wife." Great! Everyone knows Hardin?

"Wife?" He laughs. "Scott has a wife."

"Yeah, what's that funny?" He is pissing me off.

"Nothing. It's just the fact that Hardin is not that kind of man who is in a relationship."

"You know him?"

"Yeah, we were friends."

"Well, he changed."

I get in the elevator and I take out my phone and I write Hardin a message: I just finished my work. I will be home in 30 minutes. Do you need anything from town? And his answer comes back in a moment: No. I just need you. I just smile when I read his answer, to be honest I miss him and I just hope he changed his mind about Alice and her baby.

"When you two married?" I'm interrupted by Trevor. Excuse me, it's this an interrogation?

"I don't think this should be your business."

"I was just asking."

"Well, stop asking, then. I'm not going to tell you this. If you want to know everything, talk with Hardin."

"What he saw at you?"

"You can fuck off."

I say while I get out of the elevator and I go to my car. What the fuck is wrong with these people? I lock the doors and I drive back to our home. I can't wait to see him again.
