August 10th,
There was only three days left until Sam and Jane were heading to college. Over the last few days it has been nothing but packing and shopping. Sam had been out for the last three days with his parents buying the last of his dorm things and spending time with his little sisters. Jessica tagged along most of the time but also had to get ready herself for school which started in ten days. When Sam was off preparing Jessica tried to distract herself to take her mind off the fact that he was leaving so soon.
She wasn't ready to say goodbye or go up there and help him pack. It didn't feel real yet, but deep down Jessica was scared to do this without Sam. She knew she had so much help at home, but not having him there would be so different.
It was late in the afternoon. Sam and Jessica decided to spend their day outside in the backyard with Eloise. They blew up a little pool not to long ago and have been dipping her toes in sometimes on a hot day.
Today, they decided to sit inside and try to let Eloise get more used to the water.
"Say daddy, I'm a swimmer!" Jessica smiles as she moved Eloise around in the small pool.
"I think she loves it!" Sam says
Eloise giggles and smiles. She had the cutest little pink swim suit on with a little hat and sunglasses. She looked absolutely adorable.
As they continue sitting in the pool Dorthy comes out to say hello.
"I brought you guys some iced tea." Dorthy smiles handing them cups
"Oh thank you!" Sam smiles
"Thanks mom!" Jessica smiles
"Listen, Jessica, Sam, I hate to embarrass you but a couple days ago I couldn't help but overhear Jessica in the kitchen with her sister...." Dorthy says
"Mom, please don't." Jessica shakes her head with embarrassment.
"What?" Sam chuckles
"Jane and I are driving up to the city tonight for a quick get away. Jessica, I'm taking Eloise with me... she'll be fine-"
"Mom, you don't have to take her anywhere." Jessica insists
"Let me finish..." she says "You two haven't asked me once to watch Eloise since she's been born. I know you may feel bad or hate to ask. I'm always offering, so here I am again. I decided that tonight was the perfect night for you Sam to take Jessica out somewhere nice and have some alone time. I left my credit card on the table. Go crazy knock yourselves out, but don't get knocked up! Okay. I'm done talking about this now." Dorthy says shaking her head
Jessica and Sam were thrilled but also a bit embarrassed. Dorthy has always been very conversed and private. She rarely ever spoke of sex. Sam and Jessica couldn't help but laugh
"Mom, first off, thank you so much. Second, I bet that was really painful for you so I'm sorry." Jessica giggles
Dorthy breaks out and laughs too. "Please use a condom, even on birth control. I love that little girl but I don't want to win the most grandchildren award at my class reunion, okay?" Dorthy smiles
"Okay, mom." Jessica smiles
Dorthy leans down and gives her a kiss
"Thanks Dorthy... I promise I'll take her somewhere nice."
"You better kid..." she says
"I'll come inside and pack for Eloise. Want to come inside with me Sam?" Jessica asks
"Sure!"
"We are leaving in about an hour." Dorthy smiles
"An hour?" Jessica says
