A/N: ok so trigger warning for an implied suicide attempt, also kokichi is dead from the killing game in this, and shuichi is dead too, basically theyre ghosts
Shuichi opened his eyes.
And he didn't know where he was.
One minute he was in his room. Decorated with dark blue walls and covered with books.
The next he was...here?
Where was here?
He was definitely outside, that much was obvious by the way the atmosphere felt but...
His vision was really blurry, he noticed. He tried to blink it away. But he just felt dizzy. So he closed his eyes, focusing on his other senses to help him.
His surroundings felt...wet. It must have just rained. It wasn't raining where Shuichi last was, so this place must be a little, if not a lot, far.
And it was kind of quiet, but not peaceful. He could hear the regular sounds you'd hear outside combined with additional noises of groups of people talking and walking around. Though the noises weren't too loud...
Maybe it was night? But in a...populated area?
Where could this be? Shuichi lived in a quiet neighborhood, he chose his house specifically for that reason.
He decided to open his eyes again and he found seeing wasn't too difficult anymore.
Now he could deduce that he was in...an alleyway. There were stores outside of it that he could see. Along with some people passing by, but not many. And he was right on his deductions earlier, it was night and it had just recently rained.
But he still didn't know where he was! Nothing about this was familiar...
"Why'd you do it?"
Shuichi spun around quickly at the sound of a voice.
He didn't know what he was expecting but what he definitely wasn't expecting was what he saw.
...Kokichi?
Kokichi?!
He was sitting on the ground in the same clothes he wore in the killing game. Shuichi remembered it like it was yesterday.
But the clothes looked new, with some...colorful accessories? How would he get those? He didn't have those before.
Most importantly he looked... alive.
And real. Not like how he would appear in the nightmares Shuichi usually had. He looked different then, his image faded and sometimes bloody.
Shuichi had those nightmares monthly, sometimes weekly or even nightly. Occasionally, they would go away for a while. But they always came back, Shuichi just couldn't erase the guilt he felt.
His therapist tried to remind him that it was a killing game and he couldn't feel bad for anything he said or did because he was just...reacting to his terrible circumstances. But that didn't help and he didn't listen.
Still, he kept regretting how he reacted with Kokichi every day, how he ignored him, treated him poorly. He looked back and thought about how good of friends they could've been! If only he just tried a little more, thought a little deeper, stayed with him, figured out his plan, saved him-
"You're zoning out, Shu" Kokichi interrupted his thoughts. His voice was clear. Again, not like the nightmares.
But Kokichi was dead.
