"Soooo we have to go trick or treating!" Kokichi concluded, with their usual bright smile on their face as they handed Shuichi a blue candy bucket.
Shuichi simply just stared at his kind-of-friend, who was already ready for trick or treating, clearly seen by their black and white cat costume.He wasn't exactly sure how to respond to their proposal...
Shuichi cared for Kokichi, he really did! But trick or treating? They were almost graduating high school!
"C'mon, Shuichi! It'll be fun!" Kokichi insisted.
Well, Shuichi supposed, it would be fun. He wasn't actually against the idea of dressing up and eating candy at all, especially since he'd be with Kokichi.
Shuichi was just afraid of what everyone else would say! How would a grown adult react to seeing two older teenagers in high school compared to the 9 year old kid they were prepared to seeing? Maybe Kokichi could pass as a kid, but Shuichi wasn't even close! He looked like an older teenager, through and through, right down to his awkward motions.
"Shuichi, you're getting too in your head again!" Kokichi groaned, "No one's gonna yell at you for going trick or treating!"
That wasn't exactly true...they might not yell out loud in order to seem nice, but there was every chance that they were angrily cursing in their mind. And that the next day they'd gossip with the neighbors about the older "kids" who visited them, expecting candy.
"Kokichi-" Shuichi started, hoping to explain his worries.
"And if they do," Kokichi continued, "We can just act like I'm a kid and you're my dad!"
"Wh-what?! No!" Shuichi exclaimed, alarmed by their suggestion.
"Nishishi! I was just joking!" Kokichi teased,"Buuuut I wonder why you seemed so against that..."
Shuichi sighed. It was pretty obvious what they were getting at. There was no secret that there was something..."romantic" going on between them. With Kokichi's relentless flirting and Shuichi's sly/shy attempts of trying to get closer to them...There was obviously something going on.
It just was never confirmed. They held hands, spent most of their time with each other, they even cuddled that one time! People around them seemed perplexed at their close relationship, confused if they were dating or not and sometimes even confused why they were friends in the first place.
But their dynamic worked so well for them! It was strange, sure, but they really liked being around each other.
They had just never really confessed that they were in l...well, that they had a crush on each other. Maybe love wasn't the right word yet...
No matter their extreme pining and lack of confession, they both seemed pretty content with their current relationship. Shuichi was fine with only being friends, as long as Kokichi was around and that they didn't stop flirting with him. He guessed Kokichi felt the same too.
Though he didn't know how long this would last...
"Shuichi." Kokichi whined, throwing themself onto him and shaking his shoulders, "Pweety pweety pwease say yes!!!!"
