A/N: phantom thief au!!
Being chased after used to be the best thing in the universe.
But strangely, being in Shuichi's arms proved to be even better.
Instead of the risky, energetic feeling Kokichi felt while running through the streets from him, he felt comfortable, even safe, while snuggling in bed with him.
Kokichi hadn't felt that way in a while. Maybe...never? And he never expected to feel it with someone who should be his enemy.
How did this start?
Well, it really felt like it was bound to happen from the moment they met.
Right when Shuichi took his hand in a crowded city, pulling him back in an attempt to catch him. Kokichi had "unsuccessfully" stolen a piece of expensive jewelry. In actuality, he didn't want to steal it at all, he was planning to return it secretly.
He didn't mean any harm with his crimes, all he wanted was a bit of excitement, that's all he ever wanted. That's why he became a phantom thief in the first place.
And he got his excitement when Shuichi first caught him. Their eyes met and the world stopped.
The loud sounds around them, the threat of the police, the people running past them, it didn't matter. Nothing seemed to even exist except for Shuichi and Kokichi.
The first thing Kokichi noticed was his eyes. The shiny gold and grey color with the slightly anxious look. It was weird, all the others who chased Kokichi had a different look in their eyes. An angry look, a mean look.
But Shuichi's eyes were more...gentle. More...open, in a way.
He was probably new to all this. The look in his eyes almost resembled those of someone new, someone who hadn't yet experienced all of Kokichi's annoyances.
Though...it was slightly different. Even if he was new, there was...something more.
For example, the grip he had on Kokichi's hand wasn't too tight, like he didn't want to hurt him.
Those who were new usually gripped his hand much tighter, wanting to capture him as soon as possible.
But Shuichi's approach was more soft. Just like his eyes.
Kokichi had never seen someone act like this before. He couldn't help but feel slightly comfortable and intrigued.
He silently hoped he would be chased after by him more.
"Your eyes look beautiful, detective." he smirked . He was always one to tease those who came after him. But it used to be all sarcasm and lies. This time, however, it was genuine. Shuichi's eyes were beautiful, the most beautiful he's ever seen.
He didn't expect a response. No one had ever directly responded to him before.
But, Shuichi answered, returning the compliment, "So do yours."
It took Kokichi off guard.
Why would someone chasing after him, the one who's meant to ruin his plans, compliment his eyes?
Either Shuichi was lying like Kokichi used to do, or he meant it.
And by the look in his eyes, it really looked like...he meant it.
Then his grip on Kokichi's hand loosened even more, almost like he was letting him go.
It was weird...so weird.
