A/N: yay color symbolism
Kokichi liked to think of himself as a dark purple.
A color that emits a mysterious light. Confusing to those around him and yet intriguicing to some.
A color that gives a sense of royalty that Kokichi loved to fake. The supreme leader mask, the over-exaggerated sense of personality. He showed himself as a king to others, though it wasn't always the case.
Finally, he was a color that reminded one of the strange night. The dark side of him, the depressing thoughts and the serious moments.
...He liked to think of Shuichi as a dark blue.
Close to purple, but yet, not at all the same. Two completely different colors, with meanings in different ways.
Still mysterious, in the way that he intrigued Kokichi and the way he seemed to be the best at solving mysteries.
Still the dark night in the way his thoughts could turn. His anxiety, his self-confidence issues, his self-hatred that leaked into his words.
But it was also the color of a sort of...professionalism. His detective job, his smart ways. Perhaps, the color of a book you can't put down.
Kokichi liked his color, much more than he liked his own.
But it wasn't until they were granted more time after the killing game, when they started talking more, their hands slyly touching and their lips finally pressing together, did Kokichi realize...
Their colors intertwined looked perfect.
And as they grew closer, their colors became synonymous with them.
Blue gifts for Shuichi, purple gifts for Kokichi. Blue raspberry candy and grape candy. Dark blue suits and dark purple dresses.
They fit into their colors quite nice, and it even became the colors of their room when they moved in together. It became the color of their plates as they ate and the blankets they shared.
And when they finally became engaged, blue and purple were the color of the gems in the rings.
"Do you think we'd ever lose our colors?" Kokichi asked one day, laying on Shuichi's chest.
"...No." Shuichi admitted, "Do you..want to?"
"No." Kokichi revealed, taking Shuichi's hand, running his finger over the ring, "Never."
And that proved to be the case, as their colors followed them throughout the rest of their lives as a constant reminder of their love.
