"Leah, it must get old running with the boys all day." I was sitting on the couch with her watching Seth and Jacob play with Nessie on the floor. It was the third day after I woke up in the Cullen’s house and I’d spent every day since with them.
"It got old in the first week. Seeing all their thoughts. It's the worst when they've just seen their girlfriends. Disgusting." She smiled and her whole face changed. It was the first time I had seen her smile in hours. "And then it sucks phasing with them around. I either have to get naked or phase with my clothes on and they get ripped to shreds."
“Ruined clothes, all those naked boys and no other girls to talk to.” I frowned.
Her smile disappeared. "Nope, no other girls, just me."
"It’s no picnic for us either Leah." Jacob said from where he sat on the floor. Renesmee was balancing on his shoulders.
"We don't want to see you naked either or hear you complain about seeing us naked, all the time." Seth continued. I threw a pillow and hit him in the face. Leah smiled again.
"Well, now you have me to hang out with at least as long as I'm in town. I know I'm not a shifter but I know stuff. You can talk to me."
"And you’re not a vampire, which is always a plus, and you're as much of an oddity as I am."
"We're not odd, we're unique.” I winked at Renesmee, “Well I am a little weird because I don't even know what I am."
Seth threw the pillow and Leah caught it before it could hit her. "Good try." she held it with two fingers and put it down beside her. "I don't see how you all can stand it in here. It stinks."
"It’s way better than the smell of wet dog that you all leave behind everywhere you go." Alice said while walking down the stairs.
"I don't know what any of you are talking about. You all kind of smell like the forest after it rains." I gestured to the wolves. "And you smell sweet and homey; almost like honey suckles" I said to Alice.
Alice walked around arranging the flowers that stood around the room and Jake left the ground to sit next to me on the couch. The heat from his arm tingled where it touched my skin and my heartbeat quickened. I knew everyone in the room could hear it. I thought I saw Leah smirk, but I tried to ignore it.
Alice froze while reaching for a vase and stared blankly at the opposite wall. "Alice, what do you see?" Nessie asked.
Alice unfroze and continued reaching for the vase. "Carlisle has something to tell you Mika."
I wasn't used to Alice’s visions yet but sure enough the next minute Carlisle walked in the front door. He had been at work at the hospital.
"Hello everyone" he said and before he could put down the case in his arms Esme was at his side. She touched a finger to his cheek and he kissed her on the forehead but neither of them spoke.
She made her way back to the kitchen at a human speed and he sat down in the armchair across from the couch where I sat between Leah and Jacob.
"Hi Carlisle, Alice mentioned that there is something you want to tell me." I sat forward with my elbows on my knees as he pulled a manila folder out of his briefcase.
"It isn't much," he began. "I'm not even sure what it all means."
"That’s fine, anything helps and I'm not in a rush to leave the area." I knew I saw Leah smile out of the corner of my eye that time and I thought I felt Jacob twitch.
Carlisle handed me a piece of paper from the folder. I recognized it as something to do with DNA but I had no idea what it meant.
"Is this my DNA?"
