I woke to a flask of light as Jake opened the curtains letting in the bright afternoon sun.

"No." I moaned, rolling away from the window, pulling the blanket over my head. With the light and movement came pain. My head throbbed and I felt nauseous. "Love, it's time to wake up." Jake flopped on the bed beside me shaking my world. He was still talking but I was busy curling into the fetal position and wrapping my arms around my head. I took a deep breath and tried not to panic. I had never been sick before. Ever. Other than the vampire burn I had never had so much as the common cold.

Jake kept talking and started tapping his hand nervously on my pillow. The vibrations were being amplified in my head.

"Oh, please stop, please." My voice came out as a squeaky croak. My tongue felt like sandpaper as I moistened my lips.

"Mikenna," Jake put his hand on my shoulder and tried to roll me towards him gently. "Are you ok? I know you're not a morning person, but you've been asleep for a long time. It's almost three."

I whined and tucked my head between my knees. 'I need pain killers and water and quiet and stillness.'

          "Painkillers? What's wrong? What hurts?"

Headache, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound and dry mouth. I had enough late nights with friends to know the signs of a hangover even though I'd never experienced one myself. I drank a few surprised frat guys under the table in my college days and woken up chipper the next day. I had never experienced this myself.

'Everything hurts. Hangover. Water and Aspirin please.' Luckily my mother prepared for everything and supplied two super humans with a completely stocked medicine cabinet.

Jake eased off of the bed and returned in minutes with a glass of cool water and a bottle of pills.

'Four please,' I slowly peeked from out of the blanket. Jake had also closed the curtains.

"Don't you think four is too many?" Jake opened the bottle and broke the seal.

'I really want to down the whole bottle, but I think I'll start with four for now.' I thought sarcastically and took the small red pills from him. I swallowed the pills in one gulp then downed the rest of the water. I could feel the hydration hit my veins. Like a sponge, they soaked up the moisture and I sighed in appreciation. My head still hurt but the soreness in the limbs lessened. I sighed and stood slowly.

"More water." I croaked. Jake tried to take my glass, but I stopped him/ "I'll get it." My voice already sounded better, smoother, less froggy. I shuffled to the sink and filled then drained the glass three and a half more times till my joints felt lubricated.

Jake still looked confused and concerned so I explained my Tired Human=Hungry Vampire=Dehydrated, Hungover, Exhausted Human Theory. As I spoke, I pulled out the ingredients for steak and eggs. By the time I finished explaining, everything was sliced, diced and seasoned for sirloins and omelets. Jake's worry was gone, replaced by drooling.

The food my aching, sloshing stomach was a God send. Jacob smiled and shook his head when I frowned at my empty plate.

"A ten-ounce steak wasn't enough for you?" he asked as he cleared our plates.

"Now that I have been fed and watered, what's the plan? How bad is Sam freaking out?

Jacob froze in the middle of washing a pot.
