18: Dream Forever

"This was a good day." I said laying in bed with my head on Jacob's chest.

"It would have to be one of my top ten best days ever." Jake twirled a lock of my hair around his finger.

"Really? What are the others?" I turned to face him, resting my chin on my hands on his chest.

"The first day I woke up here next to you. The day in the cafe when I finally got to tell you how I felt. Actually that would have to be my number one because it was the day we first kissed. I was dreaming about that kiss for months.

"Today would have to be my second favorite tho." he put his hand to my cheek. "We say you were asleep but you looked dead." He looked straight up at the ceiling struggling to get the words out. "Your lips were pale and your skin was room temperature. I only knew you were alive because I could hear your heart trying so hard to keep beating. I loved you more and felt more connected to you everyday. It was so hard to see you that way."

He quickly wiped away a tear and looked down at me. "They made me take a shower. Said I already stank without one and if I didn't bathe they would kick me out." He smirked but I could still see the pain in his eyes.

"It was all for a good reason Chief. Before, I was getting older while you were staying the same. Now we have forever together."

I stretched up and kissed him, slowly tangling my fingers in his hair. I lost time in him until he pulled away and we caught our breaths.

"Like you said we have forever but right now we both need sleep." He gave me a final peck on my forehead and turned off the bedside lamp.

Half disappointed I settled back on his chest and fell asleep quickly.

I was walking in the woods again but this time instead of Gem and Athena, Jacob was on one side as a wolf and Noemi was on my other as a cat. We came to the same clearing where I faced the werewolves.

In the center was a large man sized glass case. Jacob and Noemi stayed at the tree line as I approached. The closer I got the lower the temperature dropped. The ground around the case was white with frost. I touched it and realised it was made of ice. I was a foot away with my hand pressed to the side when I noticed movement inside.

Suddenly a face appeared on the other side of the ice. I jumped back but my palm was stuck.

I stood staring at another version of myself trapped inside the frozen cage. She looked like a mirror image with her hand pressed to the ice but there was something wild about her. I moved closer and she followed. Her eyes were not my eyes. Where mine were brown hers were blood red.

A heartbeat began drumming and when I looked around to find the source I realised Jacob and Noemi were gone.

I turned back to my other me and asked, "What are you?" as the heartbeat got louder.

A smile slowly spread across her face, "What are we? I am you. We are three. Let me out." She whispered the last words as a threat and her eyes flashed crimson.

I stumbled back yanking my hand from the ice. She glared at me still smiling. The heartbeat and her words, 'Let me out' echoed around me getting louder and faster.

"Stop!" I screamed slamming my hands over my ears. "Make it stop!" I yelled.

"Let me out!" She yelled back. She slammed her fists against the cage wall and it exploded with an ear shattering crack.
