As we pulled up to the house Nessie came running out of the woods her long wavy hair trailing behind her. Even from that distance I could see that it had grown over the month we'd been gone. She was beautiful and Jake's face lit up when he saw her, but so did mine. I was happy that even though she was slightly older she was still a child. Still yards away she leapt into the air and landed perfectly in Jake's arms as he stepped out of the car. Any jealousy or fear I had felt melted away when I saw how happy they were. Any stranger could see that they were reuniting family members.

When I walked around to the driver's side door Nessie flew into my arms squeezing me tight around the neck. She put her hands to my face, I saw past, present and future images of her and Jake. With them came the feeling of complete friendship. Then there were images of Jake and I and the love that came with them made me happy that I didn't blush. But she could feel the heat rise in my cheeks. She looked up at me, "The love is different," she said in her clear, sweet voice.

"I know that now and I am so sorry that I took him from you." I hugged her again and the three of us made our way into the house with Jake holding one of my hands and Ness holding my other one. Bella and Esme stood in the doorway, smiles on their faces. We walked up the stairs and Nessie went straight inside. I wanted to run into Esme's arms but I didn't know how she would react. Instead I stood in front of them with my head bowed. "Hi I'm sorry and I missed you." I spit out quickly. In an instant Esme had her arms around my shoulders and I felt nothing but love and relief radiating from her. "Never will you ever leave here without saying goodbye. Do you understand me? I don't care what your reason is. You will also call us so that I don't worry so much."

"Yes ma'am." I nodded with my face in her hands.

"And don't call me ma'am. It makes me sound old." I wrapped my arms around her in another hug.

Inside the welcome was warm. Jacob and I told them everything about our trip. We took turns giving details filling in anything the other left out.

"So you're more like the dog than we thought you were," Rosalie said from the kitchen entranceway.

"Yes getting really close to the werewolves will change me into a big cat but getting bitten by one will also kill me like all shifters."

"Yay. Another pet." said Rosalie moving to the couch in front of Emmitt.

"I'm also a lot like all of you. Carlisle, remember the part of my DNA that couldn't be explained, the part that reminded you of a vampire's? Well, my great great great great great grandfather was a vampire and he had twin girls with an African shape shifter. Werewolves in their mid-twenties attacked those girls and both were bitten. Days later their father came back and tried to save them with his venom. One girl died peacefully in her sleep but after some painful days the other one survived. She woke up stronger and more powerful. She is still alive today after God knows how long.

"I am like Renesmee, born part vampire with some special qualities. There is a 50% chance that if I am bitten by a vampire I'll get stronger and live forever but it could also kill me."

"No one is biting her unless her life depends on it. Understand?" Jacob said very seriously and everyone nodded.

I pat him on the hand and smiled. "Now let's get on to real business, like the next three nights."

"Now we're talking," Emmett jumped over the back of the couch and landed gracefully on the couch between Rose and Alice.

Jacob began, "We ironed out the details with Sam. We want to set up three rings of defense the around the reservation. You all will be the first ring since you are not as vulnerable as us." "Then a ring of the oldest and strongest shifters; Sam, Leah, Quil, Seth and Embry. The younger ones will take shifts on that line and another closer to town. Paul and I will stay on the inner ring in case. "
