& Mikenna has been changed...again.

That night Jacob was still apologizing as we got ready for bed.

"I really tried to calm it down and I thought I did."

As always Jacob shifted in a loud burst of energy and fur. Dad almost fell out of his chair before Alice came out of nowhere and caught him.

"You did calm it down Jake. It's usually more explosive than that." From my memory I showed him an example of his normal shift compared to the one from that day.

"I've never seen myself shift before."

"You're just like the others only a little faster."

"But you're not like that. Whenever you shift or change its always calm and quiet. You changed with me asleep in the room and I only noticed because you smelled different.

"I wonder why." I said mostly to myself but I was easily distracted.

Sitting next to me on the bed, Jacob yawned, stretching his arms up over his head. I lost my train of thought watching his muscles move under his beater.

"I'm too tired to figure that out right now." He laid down pulling me to him.

"Today was a good day. I had most of the people I love in one place." I kissed the hollow at the center of his collar bone and smiled when he shivered slightly.

"Another one of my favorites, but who was missing?"

"Just a couple of old friends. Soon we can take a trip to New York so you can meet them."

"You havent mentioned them."

"Its been hard to keep up with them since I'm unconscious every other day."

He turned to his side so that we were facing eachother. "Everything is going to be ok now."

"Yea, everything will settle down. Mom says I need to find a place to live since I plan on staying in Washington."

"She has a point. You living in this motel makes no sense."

"I miss having a kitchen and actual rooms with doors. We also need a bigger bed."

"You only need a bigger bed if you're taking me with you." He tucked a lock of hair behind my ear and brushed his fingertips across my cheekbone.

"Of course you're coming with me. I was actually hoping you'd move with me. It would be our place. But only if you want to." Felt self conscious all of a sudden.

"I want to." He leaned forward and kissed me cautiously trying not to get carried away. "I Love you. Always will."

"And I love you Chief. Forever. And Ever. And always."

"To infinity and beyond."

I fell on my back laughing, "Did you just quote Buzz Lightyear?"

"I did." He tried and failed to look hurt. "He is a very smart guy."

"Well it's perfect." I leaned in close to him so that we shared each other's breaths. Even if it was fake he couldn't stay mad at me.

He leaned in the last half inch and quickly lost control. He rolled towards me, so that his torso was on top of mine, and tangled my hair between his fingers.

Somewhere in a small part of my mind I prayed that he wouldn't stop as he kissed down my neck to my collar bone.

All too soon his hands relaxed and he flopped to his back leaving me on mine trying to catch my breath. When we were finally breathing normally Jake leaned across me to turn off the bedside lamp. In the dark he brushed his lips across my forehead and laid back down.

I was frustrated in so many ways and on the verge of mad, "Why do you always pull away from me?"

He ran his hands over his face and into his hair but didn't answer the question.

"What is it Jacob? Do you not want me that way?"

He scoffed, "Of course I want you Mikenna." He refused to look at me.

"Then what's wrong?" I mirrored him looking up at the ceiling

"I've never done... that before. We need to wait."

I thought about it for a moment, "You've never had sex?" I saw him nod from the corner of my eye.

"First I was in love with someone who was in love with my enemy. Then I was in love with a little girl. You're the only real opportunity I've ever had."

"I haven't had sex either. I had opportunities but I never wanted too until you." We laid in silence for another minute.

'Why wait?' I turned to him resting my cheek on his chest. He automatically wrapped his arms around my waist. 'We already know we'll never want anyone else.'

'We just have too. I promise I'll explain later. I felt his lips press the crown of my head, "Goodnight Mikenna"

I pouted in the dark happy he couldn't see me.
