25: Lab Rats

After lunch we found ourselves at the Cullens' house. Mom was already good friends with Esme, Bella and Alice. To my surprise Dad had bonded with Rosalie over cars. If Jameson Adolé had a superpower it would be the ability to get along with anyone.

As planned, Mom situated herself next to Emmett on the couch. After a quick wink at me she placed her hand on his forearm. "Emmett would you mind getting me a glass of water," She held his eye contact. "While you're at it you might as well run 20 laps around the house."

Everyone froze as Emmett disappeared outside and came back 40 seconds later holding a glass of water.

"Emmett what did you just do?" Bella asked cautiously.

"I ran some laps around the house then brought Lucy water."

"Why?"

His expression changed from nonchalance to confusion.

"I don' know. She wanted water and the laps seemed like a good idea at the time."

"Anyone want to explain why he thought that was a good idea to go for a run with my glass?" Esme asked.

"That was my fault," Mom did not seem nervous at all under the stare of 9 vampires. "Today at lunch I told Mikenna and Jacob about my literal power of persuasion. I just used Emmett as an example. We couldn't give any warning because it doesn't work as well when it's expected."

She put her hand on Emmett's shoulder, "Go run 20 more laps."

He stood, went outside and came back ten seconds later.

"How many laps did you do?" I asked.

"Ten." he said with a pout.

"Liar." Edward called him out." He did 15 before realizing what he was doing."

"And if I told him to do it again he'd do five."

Emmett moved out of touching distance, "Don't worry, I've made my point." She assured him.

"I'm guessing you have some form of the same ability?" Carlisle asked me.

"I think so. I need to test it. I just need one or two volunteers."

"I volunteer as tribute." Emmett offered with a wide smile, wanting to redeem himself.

"Please go outside So that none of my furniture or dishes are broken."

"I do apologize Esme," my mother said as Dad helped her up from the couch. "Next time I'll be sure to leave any breakables out of it."

Outside the whole family stood circled around me. As I expected Jasper also volunteered to be a test subject. Edward listened closely to what my commands sounded like in their heads.

"Emmett, sit down." I said very simply in my normal voice. He shook his head and smirked.

Next using just my mental voice I told Jasper to sit. He reacted the same way as Emmett.

"Both sounded normal." Edward said.

'Both at the same time.' My mother told me. I glanced at her and she raised her eye brow.

"Emmett, sit down." I said with both my mind and mouth.

Immediately his knees began to buckle. He looked confused as he slowly sat down on the damp grass.

Jasper started laughing at him, "Join him." I commanded and he slowly lowered himself next to Emmett. Seconds later they both jumped back up and I felt guilty.

"Do it again," Jasper demanded. "I can resist it. Try something different."

"Both of you jump six times, as high as you can."
