The sun is setting. It's 4:30 in the afternoon. Zoe and me are dashing frantically around Canterolt, Loki following behind, refusing to stop saying, "I told you so."
"I knew it, I knew this wasn't supposed to happen!" He complains as Zoe bumps into a unicorn, apologises and runs around him. "I've been telling you all day that we were heading in the wrong direction and Zoe told me we weren't."
"Shut up, Loki," I pant, dodging another Canterlot citizen.
"Forgive and forget," Zoe shrugs for a split second.
"Actually," I say, carrying the word out, "I gotta go with Loki on this one."
"What!?" Zoe cries, stopping abruptly and spinning around to face me, a death glare in her eyes. "Me?"
I cower back, staring at the ground nervously. I don't want to argue with my friend, but Loki is right. Zoe rolls her eyes, "If I wasn't so tired and gross and sweaty right now, I'd totally whoop your asses," She groans loudly, tipping her head back and glaring at a pony accidentally brushing past her on the sidewalk."I wish I could have an ice cold glass of water right now," I sigh hopelessly.
"If we didn't have to find a cow, or whatever, I would totally spend these bits on a nice chocolate milk," Zoe whines.
"Or a nice, tall, cold..." I trail off, my eyes widening.
I turn to Zoe, thinking the same thing.
"MILKSHAKE!" Loki and her shout in unison.
"Of course!" Loki says like he should have thought of it earlier, "It all makes sense! That's why he gave us the money- Rose, what are you doing?"
I shake my butt, doing a little dance, "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard!"
"But where do we get a milkshake?" Loki asks ignoring me, "Is there one nearby?"
"Coincidentally, yes!" I squeak happily, "We used to go there all the time when we were fillies," I wrap an arm around Zoe.
"I hope it's still open," Zoe says nervously.
"Lead the way," Loki nods. With that, we gallop off, Zoe literally doing as Loki said and Leading The Way.
We make it to a small cafe a few blocks down. The doors are made of glass, and when we enter, the small bell above the door tinkles. The room smells like cake and sugar, the checked tiles black an white, walls aqua blue, and dotted around the place are white tables and chairs, all with fancy curvy legs. There's also a booth at the blue counter with cushioned, red stools. It's actually comfortingly quiet, apart from a loud fridge humming in the background.
The place feels warm, welcoming and nostalgic as I remember when it first opened. Zoe and me were fillies, and it was her last day visiting in Canterlot for the week. I sigh, remembering the little thought, smiling.
I'm so deep in the memory that it scares me twice as much as it would have when a citrus green unicorn magically appears out of nowhere. Zoe and me scream, latching onto Loki, who looks shocked, but doesn't scream.
"Hi!" She says in a squeaky, high pitched voice, "I'm Berry and I'm your waitress for today!" She leans forward, smiling into our faces, making me feel uncomfortable. But it does give me enough time to notice a flash of rainbow swirl around her light brown irises.
"Whoa," I gasp, but quickly wave it off, thinking it might just be my eyes playing tricks on me, "Uh, hi..."
"What can I do you for?" She smiles widely, leading us to the booth on the counter, beckoning for us to sit.
