Amelia ducked and got inside cottage. Deccan let out a sigh of relief and motioned me to enter after her. I too, had to bend a little. I was an inch taller than Amelia.
And as for the cottage, it was acceptable. Wouldn't be my first choice, but acceptable.
It was made of smoothened clay and wooden support pillars. In the corner of this small hut was a crude fireplace. A medium sized table with a hand woven carpet lay beneath it, while the walls were lined up with huge candles and candle holders, acting like a fire hazard.
"They really crashed all my expectations." Grant leaned against the fragile wall, testing it's strength.
"We should be grateful that they let us stay." Amelia reprimanded.
"Well, we cannot ask them for an LA penthouse. I mean, this is relatively nice, assuming they have no machineries or technology." Liam bent to inspect the firewood.
Deccan sympathetically touched Grant's shoulder and walked over to the other end of the room. "So who's gonna sleep where?" He asked looking at the two dense mattresses
Amelia immediately pulled me to her. "Lin and I together! If that's okay with you. . ."
I nodded quietly with the assumption that trading her for Deccan is not an option.
"Me and the boys!" Grant cheered jumping on the first mattress. He yelped when the bedding didn't sink below his weight.
"Very hard. " He stood up cursing.
"Again bud, no memory foam for the rescue." Liam stifled a yawn and laid flat on his back. Within seconds we heard him snore.
"And he's going to sleep with shoes on?" Deccan nudged Liam's foot with his knees. Both the guys sighed, helping their friend out of the footwear.
"How many knots does this man tie on those dangly laces!" Grant grunted with effort.
Soon everyone had tucked themselves into the hard straw bed with a thin cloth for bedcover and an equally thin cloth for a blanket.
"Okay! Now that we're settled, Deccan wanted to say something." Amelia turned to her side facing me.
"One sec I forgot." He closed his eyes collecting his thoughts.
"Yeah. About those over-friendly pixies." He muttered, resting against the wall. Grant woke Liam from his nap as we waited for him to continue.
"At first I believed his reason for our welcome was my shake hand, but later when Frioren went on to tell the horrifying tales of the medieval people, I couldn't help but suspect their motives. Even though Fiona vaguely assured us about not holding grudges, there's no way they would let us waltz into their place and give us a place to sleep for the night. For free.
It's like letting the children of the people who killed your family into your home. May not be their fault but the last thing you'd do is throw them a welcome party."
He followed our faces closely. Liam hummed in agreement now wide awake.
"Also have you wondered why these so called magical folks couldn't protect themselves from their enemy? Not to mention the Humans were from the 1600's . . . how advanced could their weapons be?
