My head spun and hands grew cold. I snatched it out of her grasp and stared, trying to comprehend whatever she said.
"B-But he doesn't seem like it. . ." I mumbled dishearteningly.
"I'm sorry miss." She placed her hand on my back and patted it. "Many things falsely appear as they are. Reality requires more than some blind faith to be deciphered. He's done things which some of the staff has witnessed. But the ones who tried to speak out were. . . silenced." She choked abruptly.
Hot tears threatened to spill. Karaa noticed and pulled out a stray piece of fabric from the front pocket of her apron and dabbed my face with it.
Every cell of my body told me to not believe her words but I couldn't help but think if there was some truth in what she informed.
"How did you get here anyway? Were you spying on me from the start?" I angrily grabbed the cloth from her as she flinched.
"There are hidden passageways that connect multiple rooms and halls in this palace. Some that even lead to the forests." She whimpered. I glared and seeing no way out, she continued.
". . . In case of a siege or some sort of an emergency. The passageways guide the important people like ministers and royalties to safety, miss. No spying I promise! It's just that. . . " She hesitated.
"It's just what?" I snarled.
"His Highness was getting intimate with you, and I thought of warning before a catastrophe is churned. Things haven't gone well with his past lovers-- Be careful miss!" She spoke hurriedly, glancing at the door.
"Yumiko I'm back." The husky voice suddenly boomed the Solarium.
I ducked behind some tall bright potted plants and found Killian search my chair with slumped shoulders.
I turned to check on Karaa but she was long gone as the spot she was standing on was empty.
I sucked in a deep breath, wiping my clammy face with Karaa's cloth and coughed loudly to let him know of my location.
As expected the slender ears perked up. He whipped his head to the corner I was in. Killian rushed to my side with a worried expression and tipped my face back with his fingers.
He inspected it for a few seconds and drew his brows together.
"Were you sobbing?" He gasped.
I rapidly blinked and pulled my face out of his grip.
Pointing at the nearest plant I said, "I'm allergic to the pollen of that flower."
"Oh dear! Are you alright? Do you want me to brew you some herbal soup if that aids your red eyes--"
"I'm fine. I'm totally fine Killian." I smiled sadly. "Let's head back shall we?"
He insisted that we leave the palace and blend in the streets to enjoy simplicities the common people here enjoy. Unfortunately Karaa's potential warning or plain lies held me from going out.
"What did you do in your free time; back in the OtherSide?" Killian innocently peered at my face as we walked beside each other in the maze like hallways.
"I liked to. . . " I almost forgot what I used to do on a daily basis, that seemed so long ago.
"Catch up on the pile of client portfolios, play violin, do shopping and lead a normal life."
