After the vague talk with Rin, I decided I needed more drinks to keep talking for the rest of the night. I walked back to my favourite long table of delicacies and swiped a slender glass of the same sparkling drink. I heard laughter echoing from another side of the room, with the glass still in my hand I leaned back on the table and looked at the source of the sound.
A small circle of elves eagerly listened to whatever Yumiko Liam and Amelia were telling. Out of five, the three of them made a little progress tonight. On the other end Anarzia was making an attempt of getting Grant and Dora to mingle with some tall serious looking elves.
"Boring isn't it?"
The voice belonged to the elf who had decided to stand beside me and observe the party. Brick red curly hair that neatly stuck to his head, porcelain skin, warm honey shaded irises and the unnaturally long ears that poked out from the side of his face.
This handsome elf wore a more fashionable tunic that passably resembled mine.
"Yeah. Boring me to death." I muttered. And it was.
"I don't see you talking to the nobility. Bad experience?" He picked up a cake slice and stuffed it whole, without the plate, napkins and the ten other utensils required to follow the etiquette. His questions were not to provocative at the same time it seemed suspicious to me.
He was the first to ask how are you, instead of a who are you.
And from Dora's description and Anarzia's warning this did seem like a strange behaviour from a noble elf.
"Kinda. Big parties aren't my cup of tea."
"Ah that is a smart sentence!" He looked excited and picked another slice and this time, gave it to me.
Maybe elves hadn't progressed to the level of idioms and phrases.
"What's your name?" I took a bite of the strawberry flavoured slice. His grin faded and looked surprised at my question.
"Oh. . . I'm Telsin. I should have started off with that." He regained the smile and threw a berry in his mouth.
"You must be the new person in the court. The one everyone is talking about. I'm not going to ask where you're from and all, because I trust my sisters' judgment but--"
Pause, did I hear that right?
"Did you say sister ? If she's your sister . . . then that makes you the Prince !" My eyes widened and grip slackened as the slice of cake fell on the floor. I stood open mouthed, gawking at the guy.
Not a day into the elf kingdom and we already slandered the royal siblings.
"One and only." He grinned.
"But Anarzia told you'd be entering with the King and yet--"
"Anarzia ? You must be real close with my sister to call her by her name. Even I'm supposed to address her as Princess out in public." He took the glass from my hand, gulped the entire drink and watched my bewildered face with great interest.
"Hey man-- sir -- I mean Prince. I meant no disrespect when I said the things earlier. I jus-"
"No problem. This is why I don't make an entrance with father. It's nice to observe from the shadows, to see what the people actually talk about me. Also a great way to find the new ones in the court, like you." He smirked.
