Gust of bone-chilling wind took less than a blink of an eye to turn into unforgiving summer heat. Incalescence around me grew with every second, forcing my eye to squint open. I rubbed my face, still heavy with drowsiness and moved the sphere away from my lap which added to heat. Sunlight flooded the floor ahead of me.
However the new addition that lay on me was a piece of sheet that looked torn on the sides. I recognized it from the previous night as the material I distributed to my Team. I got up, stretched myself and peeped into the cave where the other cells were situated.
All of them had the sheets strewn on the floor with the occupants missing. Although one of the sheets appeared smaller in size compared to the others. I could discern Grant's sheet as it was the only one neatly made into a bedding, Amelia's remained in the same shape like she had it curled around her. The last one which I bent to inspect was undoubtedly Yumiko's with the fibers protruding from the edges indicating an unsewn cut.
I placed mine beside hers to realize that ours combined together was the size of Amelia and Grant's. Warmth blossomed in me when I understood what she did. I couldn't help but smile at the gesture she had shown.
I decided to finally make my grand entrance to the hostile world outside. As expected the malevolent society churned up another issue for the day. When I stepped into the daylight emerging from my cave, I saw Team and wolves in a heated discussion.
"Are you serious?" Grant raised his voice. Dora and her lackeys simply shrugged.
"What's going on?" I furrowed my eyebrows and stood at a distance from them.
"Deccan! Tell these people." Yumiko and Grant exclaimed.
"And what must I tell?" sighing at how quickly I was dragged into it.
"They tricked us." Amelia scowled at Dora.
"Tricked is a harsh word. We were simply testing you. If we're going to work together, knowing your capabilities is the first move."
"And what's the test ?" I air quoted.
"Your encounter with our friends from the hive." She scorned.
"You did that on purpose?" I narrowed my eyes at her. She nodded, like it was a hilarious prank.
It had potential to be hilarious, only if I hadn't made a fool of myself.
"Just needed to know how you would react to an impromptu situation. We doubted if you would even notice the hive, but your Alpha did." Dora said jeering.
"I'm not the Alph-" I was cut off again.
" Although we expected a collective pattern from you lot. Either you stay put and fight the Buzzers or flee from the scene entirely. There's a third option; but that would have deeply disappointed us. Which is, coming and complaining to us about the Buzzers; using your excuse of delivering the First and holding us in a uncompromising situation. But I'm glad to say that the results were unforeseen." She chuckled.
"We're listening." Amelia waited for her to continue.
"You guys were a combination of every pattern last night. The first scenario of staying put? this girl did it. " She shifted her gaze from Yumiko back to us. " Not only did she fight, she also seemed to communicate with them. That amazed me. Now the second. Fleeing."
She glanced at me with mockery on her face. I balled my fist and coughed awkwardly.
"Your Alpha did what no Alpha would have. He vanished from the scene before anyone could comprehend. Funny part is, he did not run away, he ran in circles around the house."
