Amelia and I were pushed into the Royal Boutique. Rich elven women swarmed the racks and shelves talking in pretentious voices. We weren't given any attention apart from distasteful side glances. They chattered mindlessly about the courtly gossips, men and who shared beds.
Surprisingly none of that mattered to Amelia. She had her eyes fixated on a dazzling, gold dress hung on a rack. As she reached for it, a blue hair beady eyed woman rudely elbowed her aside grabbing the cloth off the rack.
"Hey watch it!" Amelia furrowed her brows.
"Oh look, it's the pathetic creatures from the OtherSide. Never will I understand why our Queen allowed you asylum. They should have executed your people on sight." She followed Amelia's fuming gaze onto the dress she held.
"Oh, you need clothes? Just ask the servants. Surely they could let you borrow their uniforms for a while."
Her companions guffawed along with her as if it were the greatest joke in the history. The ones who didn't pay us any attention started gathering around listening to her remarks.
"Don't pay her any attention." I glared at the blue haired floozie.
"Oh no. She doesn't know who she picked a fight with. If anything the bullies of my school taught me is that if you don't stand up for yourself, no one will." Amelia clenched her teeth and stepped forward.
The other noble woman curiously eyed the two of them.
"You seemed to know a lot about servants and their uniform. You probably had a lot of experience being one." Amelia snapped her fingers before the woman's face.
She stepped back stunned at the rebuke. Ripples of giggles spread throughout the boutique.
"Listen here tramp." The woman snarled. "You do not know who you're talking to. The Duchess of Cybera is my friend. One word to her and--"
"And? AND WHAT?" Amelia shouted.
"Hah! I'm friends with Prince Telsin. And my friend here is a favourite of Prince Killian!" She pulled be beside her.
The ladies gasped when they heard Telsin's name. But the thunderous silence fell when she uttered Killian.
"You're a f-favourite of Prince K-Killian?" One lady in the crowd fearfully asked me. The chatter in the boutique died down with all judgemental looks on me.
If connections are required to earn respect and safety in this place, then now's the time.
"I am." I said stoically.
Hands flew to the mouths, as elves around us slowly started to back away.
"That's right. Now get your dollar-store ass out of here before we tell him what you did to us." Amelia smirked evilly.
"Please do not tell the Princes about us. . ." Her friends whimpered.
"Give me that dress." Amelia ordered. The ladies quickly snatched the dress from the blue haired woman's grasp and placed it gently in Amelia's hands. The blue haired woman was till in shock as she stared at us open mouthed.
"What're you waiting for? Need second-hand uniforms?" Amelia threatened.
"Come on Hidia!" Her friend grabbed her arm and rushed out of the boutique.
