Carry a person to the infirmary proved to be a tedious task.
The commander briskly marched toward the palace, onlookers curiously peering at the patient.
Simon and the other guard flanked us on either sides, shielding Deccan from prying eyes. To reach the insides of the palace, we had to pass through the battleground. Elves of lower ranks rushed around, carrying the martyrs of their kingdom.
An obnoxious green creature that had a sword embedded in it's chest, lay few meters away from the gate that nobody bothered to pick up.
Following my gaze Simon said, " That is the orc your Human killed. I was there. I fired the arrow." He smiled proudly, glancing at the creature as we passed.
"He did tell us that he killed one, but I didn't think it would be this huge." Liam looked genuinely impressed.
"He's the biggest. Dener, the leader of the orcs-- not anymore though." Simon chuckled.
"We had prepared a strategy to kill him but thankfully this Human did it for us. We may not have won but I'd take this victory over anything."
"Simon! You're not supposed to engage in a conversation with them!" The guard next to Liam hissed. Simon looked around flustered.
"Why aren't you allowed to talk to us?" Liam asked him.
The guard simply marched looking straight ahead ignoring pretty much anything we asked.
"It's disrespectful enough that you haven't provided a stretcher for him-- just look at how his feet is being dragged on the ground!" Liam narrowed his eyes and complained to the guard beside him.
He's right.
The body weight had increased tremendously, making me forget that we were practically dragging him. Bandaged ankles hauled across the muddy ground.
I tried lifting him higher but Deccan was just too muscular and heavy for me.
"Simon?" I cast a pleading glance at the guard who watched our plight. Simon hesitated then let out a frustrated sigh and took Deccan from me.
In an swift motion Simon swung Deccan over his shoulder. His hands and head dangled limp against Simon's back.
The second guard gasped but Simon pressed a finger against his lip. "Commander Xeno will turn around near the infirmary, you have to cover for me."
His colleague grumbled but marched efficiently, avoiding all forms of suspicion.
"At least our friend will be comfortable now." Liam squeezed my hand.
Inside the infirmary were elves wearing white robes and a face mask, carrying medical equipment, trays of unclean bandages while treating injured elves of higher ranks resting on expensive beds.
Some threw us surprised looks while others scrunched their noses in disgust.
Commander Xeno stopped by a clean bed in the corner and Simon lowered Deccan on it. Xeno frowned at the sight of his soldier carrying a Human.
"Ah Lord Ciaran!" Xeno looked past my shoulder and bowed lavishly at the person behind me.
Ciaran wore a tensed expression, his bright green tunic spotted with drops of blood. "Commander Xeno." Ciaran nodded.
