Collapse in a Mall

For the provisional exams there was something left that we needed to do. Disaster rescue training. So today, the class was going to be split up into two teams. With myself being the extra on Team A. They thought about setting me on my own or in both groups but decided against it. After the first rescue prep, it was determined that I should be with people I felt comfortable working with.

After all, they still were unsure of how my quirk worked and given what my background was... well enough said. Once I had changed into my costume, I met with everyone at Ground Beta. As the speedy man talked, I decided to ignore him. He rambles a lot. That said, I stuck close to Todoroki and Midoriya. Crate objects woman was the one who explained everything, she even had a map. "Two hours ago, a fire broke out on the bottom floor of a large underground shopping mall. Currently, the fire has been put out, and the people inside have been evacuated. However, we received word that somehow in this underground mall, there is still one person who needs to be rescued."

This was when Speedy spoke again. "Our mission is to rescue that person as quickly as possible. The person who needs to be rescued is a training dummy." The way they explained it, was that the main power was off due to the fire, but emergency lights were probably working. We were split into groups as well after setting up a meeting point.

I was sent with Todoroki and Bird man as part of their team, but would switch teams half way through to be with the other two person team. "Tokoyami, is this level of brightness okay?" Todoroki spoke as I slid down the stairs to the floor on the bottom. Dark Shadow already seemed in a decent amount of control.

The bird nodded, catching me under the arms before setting me on the floor. I smiled. "I am having no difficulty controlling Dark Shadow." As we walked I froze time to look around corners and keep a heads up about things that were happening around us. I also started to think about other issues we could have.

Waiting for the others to catch up I spoke, hand resting on my chin. "This is supposed to be Disaster training, correct?" They nodded. "If that's the case, doesn't this seem a little too easy? Usually in a disaster there are other dangers you need to look out for. Sure the fire's out, but the structural integrity of the building isn't known. We need to be careful as we move in case of ceiling collapse or burst pipes."

Birdman seemed confused by my statement. "What do you mean by that? This building is still standing and we've been cleared to enter. Why would they send us in otherwise?"

Todoroki seemed just as confused. "Heroes will enter the building even if it's unstable to rescue someone, putting their own lives in danger sometimes. Plus, the teachers never stated there wouldn't be more to this test than just fighting a dummy. Thinking back on it, when my home was blown up, there were several burst pipes that ran for days before getting shut off. It wasn't that bad because I could move out in the open to stay away from pockets, but this in itself is a large pocket. Support beams might have been damaged, and therefore unstable."

As I finished talking the ground around us started to move. "Oh." Todoroki said, his eyes glancing off to the side. "An Earthquake?" I was having trouble staying on my feet and decided to hang onto a wall, I could feel myself starting to panic. Reliving that moment when everything around me seemed to explode. The feeling of someone grabbing hold of my waist and pulling me away from the wall hardly registered.

Using my arms I covered my head curling into a ball, everything seeming so loud as the rubble around us settled. Bits that were still falling from the roof clattering against other pieces as they settled into place. "Todoroki, are you alright?" Birdman?

Feeling was starting to come back as the memory faded. Someone shifted from covering me. "Yeah, I'm okay. (L/n), how are you?" Opening my eyes I could just make out the two men staring down on me. Todoroki's hands were holding himself up on either side of me. I gave a gentle nod, as he stood before holding out his cooled hand to me. "Does anything hurt?"
