Re-winded Failure

I suddenly sat up in a bed breathing heavily, something felt wrong. "Kai? Kai?" There was a monitor beeping quickly beside me, showing that my heartrate had spiked. I quickly started pulling at tubes and the mask over my face. "Where is he? Kai?! Kai?!" I stumbled out of the bed as nurses came running into the room trying to get me to lay back down.

I was in too much of a panic to listen to them. Honestly, I didn't care what they wanted me to do, I didn't even know where I was. I kind of remember there being a huge fight, and comforting Eri.. but Kai was there. He looked different, and something was just wrong. I needed to find him.

Aizawa came into the room as well, he held up his hands as he tried to say something but I just blocked it out. It didn't matter what he had to say. "Kai! Kai?!" Eventually, Aizawa took my arms and shook my, trying to get me to look at him so he could tell me everything. I was made to sit back on the bed so he could explain what had occurred. I just stared at the cold tile floor processing everything. When he got to the sickness and what they were doing for treatment, he tried to blame Kai.

I shook my head frantically. I explained it how Kai explained it to me in the fuzzy memories I had of being back home. That Toga had stuck me with a needle during the Test and I had started to feel its effects after the first round. Kai was just trying to help me. Because he couldn't use his quirk on me he didn't know what else to do, and that was when Shigaraki showed up and gave him the vail. After that I asked what happened to Kai.

For a moment, Aizawa was silent. "He is being sent to Tartarus. On the way, the truck was attacked by the League of Villains." My eyes widened. Either they helped him escape or- "When they sent a recovery team, Kai was found missing both of his arms." I couldn't believe my ears. There were only two people capable of doing something like that. Compress, and Shigaraki. The others would have just killed Kai on the spot.

My hands clenched into fists. "I.... I want to see him. I want to see Kai and give him his arms back. He's not a bad person... I know him... He saved me when no one else would. He gave me a home... a place to grow." Tears started to well in my eyes, running down my cheeks. "If it wasn't for him I would have died. Please, just let me save him. I'll finish the heroes courses, I'll become a hero if that's what they want. I just want to repay Kai for saving me. For everything he did for me. Please."

After the conversation, Aizawa said he would see if they would let me give Kai his arms back. It was only because of my quirk and the fact that I had control over it. Their other stipulation was I had to help Eri master her quirk, because it was the same as my own. By the end of the day, I was allowed to return to the school. They tried to get me to give a statement about what happened when I was taken by Kai, but everything I knew I had already told Aizawa. Mostly because I had spent that entire time pretty much in a coma, so when I was awake it wasn't for long.

As we were on our way to leave, Aizawa had given me my uniform to change into as well as the medication that had helped aid in my recovery. I was going to have to give it to myself. Thankfully, Kai left really good instructions, so it wasn't going to be that hard. "Chisaki Kai, arrested for the abduction and confinement of two young girls, is the young head of the designated villain group, Shie Hassaikai." On the news, I could see a report with a burning bridge and overturned truck. "As police were transporting him, they were attacked by the League of Villains. During this incident, Sand Hero: Snatch, who was there as backup for the escort, was killed. There were also a number of police officers injured. This attack on a villain in transport is an unprecedented failure..."

All I could do was stare at the screen. It had already been a day since the attack, and there wasn't anything I could do. "It isn't something you should feel responsible for. You don't have to worry about it." That didn't really help how I felt. "For now, the students are to return to school. They want to monitor Togata a little longer, but the other students have already been completely healed by Recovery Girl. They should be here soon."
