Time Stamp: Shoto x Reader

Two Steps Back

I had done my best to keep up with the other pro heroes in the area, capturing about 20 villains and saving 30 people my first few days. Towards the end of the day, Endeavor usually called over the radio to let me know when to head to a hospital in the area. It was here that we worked on my Rewind part of Reset. We started small. A broken bone, bruising, or minor cuts. They in of themselves wouldn't take much power and should have been easy fixes.

They weren't. I had limited time to even get comfortable with it. I had to be able to use it freely when the time came. Yet by day three, I was still over thinking about the power output I was using. Images flashed in my head of what my mom was yelling at me. Of what she did to me... because of the power I hold.

I could hear her voice so clearly all over again. It forced me to stop so many times. "You stole your father from me, you ungrateful child. I hate you! I hate you! I hate you! Taking his quirk from him, how could you do something like that! This is all your fault!" I took a step away from her when it happened. Our home suddenly exploded.

She took my hair as we stared down at my fathers clothes on the ground, pulling me so that I had to stand on my toes trying not to cry out loud. I deserved it, my Quirk is dangerous. I finally managed to shake the thought out of my head. When we tried on the next person, I was completely unable to use Rewind at all.

My eyes looked up to meet him before I spoke carefully. "Endeavor... I can't use Rewind anymore. I don't mean physically... I mean literally. I can't use it." We ended up stopping there for the night, there was still work to do in the morning. So I ended up sitting in my room, looking at the ceiling trying to get over the thoughts swirling in my head. Instead of over thinking Rewind, I was now completely blocking it out. I wasn't moving forward at all. If nothing else, I was moving back.

When I met with the others in the morning, I hadn't managed to sleep at all. "You were too slow! Which means I'm above you!" I rolled my eyes, Bakugou wasn't even dressed properly. Now he is also blaming others for his failures.

Todoroki seemed to be taking it in stride though. "I'm not used to pinpoint attacks yet."

I placed an arm on his shoulder with a smile. "It looked like you were gettin the hang of it though."

He had a slight smile on his face as he looked down to meet my gaze. "Yeah." With that... he added a kiss to my cheek. My eyes widened even with Bakugou continuing to yell in the background. "How's your night training going?"

I frowned at that. "I... can't use Rewind. Not physically, I mean. I... last night.. I focused too hard on the memories and umm.... Mentally I can't even find out how I used to do it." I ended up leaning away from the group laughing awkwardly.

Midoriya seemed to understand. "The accumulation before you release is a problem, too, right? For both of you I mean."

Todoroki continued to speak casually. "I can't get max output to release in an instant without taking some time." I just shrugged. I didn't even know what it was at this point other than a mental block.

Bakugou had an idea on that though. "Idiots! You should just always be storing up stuff!" He had a point. To an extent, I always allocated what part of my power I would use for Time and what would be used for Rewind instead of thinking of it as one ability. I had only started doing that recently, still allocating different amounts of power mentally. I could have just run out and would need to take that power from my other source.

I didn't get that far in my thoughts when Endeavor finally made his way over. "Let's go. Come with me." Once again I set out on my own once we left the building. The day passed like a breeze, and by dusk I was called over the radio and told where to meet up with the others. We ended up somewhere I wasn't expecting... Todoroki's house.
