Cheer up

Yuzuru got out of the building aiming mindlessly for his own hotel through the busy streets full of people on their way for late night fun, and trying to make sense in all the emotions he was feeling.
He couldn't believe that the strongest one of them all was relief.
Relief that Anya is not only fine but also not interested in Nathan.
He had no idea what he would do if those two would actually begin to date. And knowing very well what kind of a hypocrite it makes him, considering he was with Emily.

He noticed a nearby park and aimed there instead, hoping to sort out everything in his head before he gets back to Emily.
He sat down on a bench and put his head in his hands, looking at the gravel road at his feet.

Now it finally started to hit him that the whimper sound they heard in the hallway came from Anya. That she was there, so close to him, and he had no idea.
But then thinking about it, he was glad it was like that, because he wasn't sure what he would do seeing her at that moment.

Javi was right. He had no right anymore to claim anything when it came to her. She was her own person very much capable of her own decisions and she obviously didn't want to see him or talk to him.
Yet he still wished he could talk to her in person and hear how she is doing directly from her. To be able to tell if she is lying if he could only look into her eyes.

Was she really fine after the forced kiss from Nathan? Was she happy with the life she had now? And even though she obviously missed him as much as he missed her, was there somebody else she was interested in?
He was so happy that he got out of the dark place and had now Emily by his side, but was there somebody for Anya too?

At that moment his phone rang, startling  him from his gloomy thoughts.
He took it out and blinked few times seeing that it's Anya who is calling him.
Yuzuru quickly picked it up without a second thought.

-Are you okay, Yuzu?

-Where are you?!

Yuzuru quickly darted his head around but saw only various people going through the park,  most of them already drunk and couples making out on the benches.

-It doesn't matter. But you were just sitting there looking like you would need a hug. Is everything okay?

-Yeah. I....I spoke with Nathan.

Anya was silent on the other side for a moment but then she spoke again with the same calm voice that always got Yuzuru into the same state of calmness, making him feel that everything will be okay.

-Will you go and apologize to him?

-Of course, I will. But are you sure you are fine?

-Yeah. So is that why you are so sad?

-Mostly, yeah. Are you happy?

-I was not. But I am now, I think.

-Did you come and watch me at the other competitions too?

-Yeah. But I will stop now.

Yuzuru wanted to ask why, but he knew why. Then he wanted to ask her not to stop going but he knew it would be for the best if she did. So he just didn't say anything to it and let Anya continue.

-But I would like to come and watch you at the Beijing Olympics if you are planning to attend. If that's okay.

-Yeah, of course.

-Okay. Well then. Don't worry about me. Go home to Emily.

-Are you going home to somebody?

-I got an offer to move in with one of my friends. I really like him, so I might actually take him up on that offer now.

-Good.

-Well then. Cheer up, Yuzu.

He chuckled at that and was sure that Anya was smiling too.
But then she just gave him her goodbye and he only managed to wish her a safe flight before the line was cut as Anya hung up.

Yuzuru stood up and once more turned around but still saw now signs of her.

Meanwhile, Anya stayed where she was on her bench far away from Yuzuru's line of vision and began to write a text to David, letting him know she finally decided to move in with him.
She was  glad that he was still one of the old school guys and did take her on a date. More than once. And she knew that he will be happy to see she finally made up her mind about him.
Anya still had one condition for him though, but decided to rather discuss it with him in person.
So she only let him know that there is one, rather massive catch, but that it will be entirely up to him if he then wants to go for a relationship with her anyway.

She smiled reading his reply as her phone buzzed with an incoming message not even a minute later.

David
-I'm already pretty sure I know what the condition is. And it's fine, I expected it. But let's talk when you are back.

She put her phone back into her pocket and turned around, seeing that Yuzuru was not on his bench anymore.
Anya then got up as well and went back to her hotel room, glad that she decided to kill the time while waiting for her flight in this specific park, hoping she did manage to ease his mind a little.
