Emily could hear Nyx struggling with her bags in the hallway and came to help her but the moment she saw how much alcohol Nyx bought, she just leaned against the wall and folded her arms on her chest.

-You serious, Nyx? How many bottles of wine are there?!

-I didn't know which one he would drink, so I got three red and three white wines.

-I don't even think he actually drinks alcohol!

Nyx wheezed and put the bags on the kitchen counter, checking her arms to see if any new muscles grew from that trip to the liquor store.
She then rested her arms against the counter, staring at the floor and panting.

-Well the less he drinks, the more for you. Honestly, for all the months I know him, seeing how closed off he is, I thought he will be the one who will need all the extra pushing. But you just never keep surprising me. I still can't believe you turned down his offer to move in.

-I didn't. I just said I will think about it.

-Yeah, guess what that does to a man's ego.

-I doubt it does anything to his ego since there is nothing between us. It also looked like a very spontaneous offer. I believe he should take some time and think about it as well.

-Nah, he is sure. He knows it would only benefit him.

-Since when are you an expert on that guy?

Nyx pushed herself off the counter and finally turned around to face her friend.

-Cause unlike you, I had over six months of getting to know him when we chatted or watching him how he treats his dates which gave me even better insight.

-And?

-He always treated all the girls with respect, but anytime there was even a hint of the girl being actually interested in something more, he always got quite cold real quick. Whereas when it was obvious the girl is not interested in some romance but just wants to have a good time, he turned on his charm. So he just needs to find that one girl that would show him it's okay to have feelings for somebody again. Because I don't believe that cold, distant act he sometimes hides behind is actually him. I think he used to be really open and cheerful until that breakup.

-He is always cheerful with you.

-That's because he knows we are really just friends, nothing more. I am sure if you would let him talk to you outside when he asked you to, you would see that cold side of his.

-But I also don't want anything more! Just friendship. I am never, ever going to date another athlete. I am not that girl who you think will bring him back.

-Yeah, cause you are more stubborn than I remembered! But you two are the same! No meaningless hookups will help you, Em. But he could!

-Just give it up, Nyx. Please!

-Never.

Emily sighed and rather went to take a shower than to continue the nonsensical discussion that was getting more and more on her nerves.

Once she got out and dried her hair, she came to the living room, just to find the small conference table covered with snacks and all the bottles of wine on display.
She leaned over and blew out the candles that were placed in between the plates turning to Nyx, doing her best to suppress her growing anger but failing.

-Nyx! Will you please knock it off?!

Nyx turned to her with an innocent look and started to put on her sweater.
