Summer 2023

-No. Again.

Yuzuru rolled his eyes as Emily yet again took off his tie and handed it to him.
They stood in front of a tall mirror in one of the many guest rooms of Javi's and Nyx's house in Spain. And it was at least the tenth time that Emily did that.

-You are the best man for Christ's sake! I can't let you go there looking like you just left a bar with your tie all askew.

-Javi wouldn't mind.

-But Nyx would kill you.

Yuzuru shivered a bit at that thought and looked into the mirror, trying to tie it once more, for some reason ending up again with the bottom part longer than the top one.

-Again.

-Can't you just do it, pleaseee?

He whined and Emily put her hands against her hips and pursed her lips. Her expression was dangerously close to one of his mother.

-How old are you, Zu?

-Twenty-seven....no wait, twenty-eight!

His eyes widened and he closed the distance between him and the bed, sitting down on the edge of it.

-Oh my God. I will be twenty-nine this Christmas.

He fell back on the bed, spreading his arms and staring at the ceiling.

-I should start writing my last will.

Emily laughed, seeing that he is just being theatrical and actually doesn't mean it. She hopped on the bed and took his face into his hands, directing his gaze to hers.

-Do you feel old?

-No. I feel the same.

-See! Then stop the melodrama!

-Well....but I will feel old if I actually learn how to tie this damn thing.

He waved with the tie in the air, eyes pleading.
Emily sighed and snatched the tie from his hand. She put it around her neck and with few swift moves she was done and handed it back to him.

-At least promise me that you will learn it until your own wedding.

Emily immediately regretted she said that but Yuzuru just chuckled at that remark as he got up from the bed and went to put on the tie in front of the mirror.

-I should have plenty of time then.

He said still with a smile, more concerned about arranging the tie properly and Emily had to blink twice to make sure she is talking to the same Yuzuru she knew. Because that was a reaction she definitely didn't expect.
He was still giddy and kept grinning at his reflection in the mirror, leaning close and combing his hair with his fingers.
She didn't want to risk any dark thoughts actually creeping into his mind and quickly started a new topic.

-So how is that demon doing by the way?

-She actually almost made me cry when I came back from the Worlds.

-Oh?

-She actually missed me! Can you believe it? She ran up to me with her tail up the moment I opened the door and let me lift her up. Vivien - her sitter - said that she was often meowing at the door to my bedroom.

-Maybe she was just worried her prey escaped?

-Nah, she loves me.

-Or that you left before she could complete your sacrifice to the dark powers?
