Chapter 5: Friend

Eddie's POV

It's nighttime. Eddie woke up with Buck and the 118 along with Christopher sleeping by his side.

The others saw Eddie's hand move and look up to see the man awake. He asks how did the procedure go. Henrietta replied, "They needed to stitch your injury but the good thing is you didn't damage any major artery."

He holds his son's head and smiles knowing that his son is beside him. He tried to move his arm it's still really bang-up but he can move his finger slowly so that's a good sign. He was a bit worried that he would lose his left arm, not because of an explosion or anything serious but because of a psycho woman that attacks him. Bobby then mentioned that due to his injuries, he needs to take it easy for a whole 3 to 4 weeks, including not working. He understands this and Bobby was thankful and looks straight to Buck, who is kinda offended by this.

He tried to defend himself only to be interrupted by the knocking on the door. Chim opened it and revealed that it's Buck's sister, Maddie. She hands them a bag of fruits and Eddie says thanks.

They had a wonderful night just taking and keeping him company. Eventually, they had to leave as the others had a shift tomorrow, and Buck said he is staying with Eddie while Christopher decided to stay at Maddie's home for the night.

It was just the two of them now. Eddie asks why Buck stayed here he should have just got to sleep and had a shift but instead, he chooses to watch over him. He felt a bit of confusion but doesn't understand why.

The other firefighter replied "Because you are my best friend Eddie, You save me and that man from getting stab. It's the least I could do." He smiled and suddenly Eddie's phone vibrates. It's too far from his range so Buck gave it to him.

He looks and saw a message from Carlos, who responded to his text and ask if he is alright now. He smiled and replied using his intact arm.

"Fine now, the doctor said that I have 3 to 4 weeks before I can go back to work"

After a few seconds.

"Oh that's long but it's understandable as you just got stab twice"

He smiled again. He doesn't know why but just talking to him makes him feel something different.

As this continues Buck observes as Eddie smile while texting someone. He never mentioned anything to him so he watches blindly as he looks at his best friend who is still chuckling while his left arm is wounded.

He decided to ask him who is he texting. This took Eddie's attention from Carlos's text to his friend who asks him who is on the phone. He states that it's Carlos the cop they saw earlier and a friend of TK. Buck nodded and Eddie goes back to chatting with him.

"Hey, Athena going to visit you if you don't mind can I join her or another time?" he texted

"Of course you can, besides you don't need to ask me about it, you are my friend Carlos" He texted back.

After a few seconds, Buck was quickly surprised by the sudden knocking on the door at this hour. He opened it and revealed Athena and the police that Eddie mention earlier, Carlos. She asks how is he holding up and replied fine. Carlos then asks what happened earlier regarding the accident that occurred. He filled up every question both of them have. Carlos proceeds to ask Eddie how he is feeling even though he already answered that. The two talks for a while, Buck joined in after a while feeling a bit left out. Eventually, the two police had to get back to their home for tomorrow's shift. They waved goodbye.

Buck questioned when did he and Carlos become friends. He explained that they met the day when he invited Tk. He states that they talk for a while outside and just became friends, after that mentioned that they have been texting yesterday.
