Chapter 16: Emotions

Eddie's POV

He woke up from a place he knows isn't home. His eyes adjusted further as he examines the room. Few details hints that it's the hospital.

From the design of the room, a clipboard and the overall presence feel like the hospital.

Eddie looks around and saw a policeman sleeping uncomfortably on a chair. He can't seem to remember what happened last night.

What happened? He asks himself as he tries to sit up straight. Thankfully he didn't wake up the policeman who is sleeping peacefully, not to mention cute and handsome.

Suddenly memories started pouring into his mind... He and Carlos were watching a series at his house... Then something came up so he asks if he could join him... After that blank.

He then remembered about Christopher which made him yell "Christopher" causing the policeman to wake up and be on guard.

He quickly apologizes to Carlos for disturbing his slumber and asks what happened.

As Carlos was about to answer his question a doctor showed up. Dr. De Chaves introduces himself.

The doctor told him that his blood pressure is high and other factors as well. The doctor also told him that it's not common for people like him at his age to just suddenly collapse, he questions the firefighter about his medication and if he has been overworking or doing something that's making him so stress physically and mentally?

Carlos puts his hand on his shoulder and asks if everything is alright?

"I..." Eddie couldn't say it.

"You told me to not worry much about Christopher but the truth is I'm worried for him now more than ever..." Eddie replied and Carlos quickly hugs him and Eddie cried on his shoulder.

"Tell me Eddie what have you been doing this past few days?" Carlos asks still holding Eddie.

"After the whole accident with Christopher I...couldn't sleep much. The nightmare of losing him always haunts me... I tried to block it away by either... Exercising or doing anything physically to let my mind rest at least..." Eddie was cut off when Carlos tightens the hug.

"Why didn't you told me or Buck?" Carlos asks with tears in his eyes confuse about why he has this much emotion from a firefighter.

He explained that he isn't good at talking his emotion out loud and asking for help isn't his best suit either.

Carlos lets go of Eddie and the doctor told him that his body needs time to rest. He will check up on him later just rest and the doctor leaves.

Eddie feels shame about what he did. He doesn't usually share this much personal info with anyone except maybe Buck and Cap, and now it seems that Carlos is also special to him.

The way he holds him feels home... Eddie said to himself as he looks at the man in front of him.

"Does the others know?" He asks the policeman. He looks at the firefighter and responds that he only told Carla because he called Chris's number but she is the one who answered it.

He nodded in relief knowing that he might make his own kid worry about his own dad.

"But sooner or later the kid will ask where his father is and also your friends too" Carlos replied and Eddie knows this.

Christopher is not a kid anymore, he knows that but, with everything going on in their lives about how risky his job is and not to mention Chris's disability which makes the world, even more, harder for him.
