Chapter 9: Trust

Carlos's POV

He and Eddie are now alone in the living room filled with empty beer cans and empty bags of chips.

He asks what time is it and Eddie replied it's around 6. This made Carlos panic as he is late for work. He has no idea why he headed and stayed at Eddie's the whole night even though he has a shift. He quickly gets up only to be pulled by Eddie's arm preventing him from leaving.

"Where are you going? you're helping me clean" Eddie said kinda like a joke but still serious.

Carlos checks at the time 6:32 AM he should be able to help Eddie clean, head back to his apartment, shower, and change before 7 AM but he doubts as there is no way he can do all that.

He picks up the trash as fast as he can, grab his car keys, and says goodbye faster than Eddie can reply. This made him kinda disappointed. He runs to his car starts the engine and drives as fast as he can without breaking the speed limit.

"7:20 your late Carlos you are never late?" Athena asks kinda surprise at the man's sudden change.

He apologizes and said that he didn't realize the time Athena understands. The two head inside her car and starts to patrol the area.

Not long after the police radio turns on and states that a distress alarm on the bank not far from them activates and needs backup. Athena responds and steps on the gas.

Outside the bank

A woman carrying a bag filled with money walks in a crowded lane. She is terrified and shaking as she holds the bag looking in every direction hoping he doesn't get caught. Athena manages to spot her from the given description of her.

She chases the now running woman to the side of the road stopping at the side of the parking area telling her to stop where she is but she still continued. Athena and Carlos point the gun towards her. She raises her hand in fear of getting shot.

Athena told her to drop the money but she didn't. She told her again and she still didn't. The woman crying told the officer through lipreading that she is being forced to steal the money.

The two officers are now confused ask why they should listen to her

She, her daughter, and her husband were just in the hardware store then suddenly they were abuse by 4 people wearing a mask. She said that her husband and daughter are being held hostage by a thief. She added that if she didn't get the money in 6 minutes they will die. The woman proceeds to show the officers the bomb attached to her waist.

Athena was about to call back up when the woman stops her telling them that they are listening to their radio. Carlos ask where is the drop and she told her that there is a burner phone in her car and if she doesn't respond in 1 minute they are dead.

Athena told her to stop moving away or and stay where she is or she will shoot. She said in worry that she is dead anyway if they arrest or shoot her.

Carlos and Athena ask each other if they should believe her. Carlos can tell that the woman is traumatized as she has never done this before nor want to do this. She is terrified.

Carlos went with his gut and Athena did the same. They drop their guns and let the woman go to her car and drives away.

"Whatever happens it's on me," Athena said.

"No, whatever happens, it's on us" Carlos clarifies as he isn't going to let Athena take all the blame to herself.

The two officers were taken back to the station to ask them why they let a woman that rob a bank and uses a stolen car go. They both told them that she is terrified and worries for her husband, telling the investigators that she is being used. The investigators seem to disagree with their statement and with that they were suspended.
