Chapter 26: Facing the Reality

Buck woke up from his nap, he gets up from his chair and a blanket drops on the ground. He observes and realizes that it's the blanket he gave to TK.

He heads inside and saw the doctor washing the dishes. TK saw the man's shadow and greeted him good morning, followed by him drying his hands on a towel. Buck sat on the couch and saw the phone. 

"So... have David been in touch with you?" He asks trying to be casual as much as possible but failing miserably.

"Um... No. what made you think that?" TK replied grabbing his phone from the table. He told him that it just pop into his mind. 

The doctor asks if he could borrow a charger and he points to a drawer next to him. 

The doctor proceeded to charge his phone upstairs, suddenly Evan heard someone knocking on the door. He sprints as fast as he can from the couch to the door. He looks and it's not Taylor.

"Maddie hi" Buck responds kinda disappointed for some reason which his sister picks up quickly.

"You could at least show you cared that your sister decided to visit you," Maddie said looking at her brother. He apologize and explained that he thought she was Taylor. His sister walks towards him and asks if they had a fight or something.

Buck realized that he didn't tell his sister about it. Now that she brought it up, Buck isn't sure if what happened a few weeks ago is considered fighting?

"well, it's complicated" Buck responds and his sister replying "isn't everything complicated."

 Maddie was about to tell her something when a man walks downstairs breaking their conversation.

"Tyler what are you doing here?" Maddie asks and proceeds to hug him.

Buck complained about Maddie hugging his friend but not him, to which his sister replied that his attitude changed her mind.

Maddie stayed for a while, she stated that she needed a distraction and his brother didn't ask her further.

...

Buck eas preparing lunch for them when somebody knocks on the door. He asks TK if he could open it cause he is preoccupied at the moment.

The doctor stood up and heads towards the door, not even checking who was knocking.

After opening it, he was surprised at who it was.

"TK...Can we talk?" Carlos ask. The policeman looks at him with such regret, his voice alone shows his sorry, and TK knows it.

"Sure... Not here though" TK said and told Evan and Maddie that they're just going for a walk.

They nodded and let the two leave.

"Did something happen?" Maddie ask his brother and the only word that came out is "it's complicated."

At the park not far from Buck's apartment.

TK and Carlos sat down.

Children's scream joy and laugh as they play with each other, some having picnics with their family and friends

"Look TK, I'll make this quick cause I know you're mad at me-" Carlos was quickly cut off when TK stop him.

"I'm not mad at you Carlos, alright. I'm more worried" TK respond which surprise the policeman.

"Why?! Earlier this morning I remembered what I did and all the crap I said to you" Carlos respond.

He can't even look at his face, just seeing his bruise hurts him, to think he'll hurt his nest friend.

"It's the truth though..." TK said looking down and tears starts forming in his eyes.

"After I left, I started to wonder if you're right? It bothered my mind for a while and it made me realize"

"I keep relying on people to pick up my pieces. Always expect that everyone will help me. Which made me weak" TK respond and Carlos doesn't know what to say.

"No TK you're strong alright-" Carlos was cut off again.

"Either it's the alcohol talking or your true self, it doesn't matter Carlos. You know I won't abandon you alright. Yes we argue but I won't let our friends just go to waste just because of him but I have to be better. I need to stop relying on people for my own problems" TK said looking at him smiling.

"Thank you for being the best friend a guy can ask for"  Carlos replied hugging him.

"Same here" TK smiled and hug him back.

At the apartment.

"So are we not going to talk about it?" Evan asked his sister who has been dodging the subject every time he ask her.

"Fine Evan, it's my daughter," Maddie said and tears starts forming in her eyes which made her brother sprint and comfort her.

"What happened to my niece?" Buck ask.

"She is fine, she is with Chim right now... But it's better if I'm not around her" Maddie said which made Evan confused.

"What are you talking about Maddie? You're a great mom-" Maddie cut him off.

"I almost drowned her Evan. If I didn't act fast enough she could have drowned!!" Maddie yelled, tears flowing nonstop.

Evan looks at her sister and hugged him.

"So... What will you do?" Evan asks scared but still keeping it together.

"I just need to fix myself, find myself until then, I'm a threat to her" Maddie responds still not breaking the hug.

"What you're going away? No no no" Evan said arguing with his sister.

"What about Me? Josh? Chim? Your daughter?  Are you just going to leave us?! Again"  Evan responds afraid of his sister's decision.

Maddie just stared at his brother

"I'm sorry"

She said and gave Evan a letter before she left.

Evan wanted to stop her, lock her in his apartment if he wants to but... Just the thought of Maddie keeps him.

He opened the mail and read the letter.

TK heads back from Buck's apartment and thanks the man for letting him crash. He told him that he'll be back at Carlos's place.

Evan smiles, concealing his problem to his friend who has problems of his own.

That night.

Someone knocks on the door, Evan woke up at his couch, lights are shut, TV is still on despite nothing interesting in on.

He stands up and opens the door joining it's Maddie but it wasn't her it's someone else.

"Taylor you're back. How's your sister?" Evan responds, hugging her.

"Can we talk Evan?" She said not even daring to say hello.

"Um sure," He said and let the woman in and closed the door.

Evan was glad that something good happened today...

He looks at her and he can still it's serious.

"Do you want some tea? Coffee?" Evan ask her and she turned him down stating that she won't take long.

Which questioned the firefighter as he thought she would at least stay the night.

"Look, Evan... I-" Taylor couldn't find the courage nor the words to explain herself.

"It's over."

Sorry everyone for the late update, this chapter was supposed to be published last week but due to my schedule I just couldn't find time to work on it with the scholarship exam being close I need to study plus, school, and looking for a good college just puts too much pressure on me. I just wanted to update this so bad, hope to have a more flexible schedule to work, hope you enjoy it at least.
