"Hey, Pope! We're here to pick up some stuff for Ward," you greeted your friend with Rafe trailing behind you, grumbling. Pope sent you a wide grin and attempted to send one Rafe's way too but he didn't get one in return from the Cameron boy. He shrugged it off before pointing to the corner of the story where some boxes were stacked.
"Just over there guys. Do you need some help?" Pope offered. You were about to take him up on his offer before Rafe spoke for the both of you.
"We got it, pogue. We don't need your help," he spat. You shot Rafe a glare before rolling your eyes at him.
"I was just trying to be nice," Pope muttered and you gave him an apologetic smile before turning to Rafe and grabbing a box.
"We're supposed to be working for your dad. Can you at least try not to be an asshole for like an hour, please?" you asked and you swore you could see his eyes soften a tiny bit before his hard expression made a reappearance. You let it go for the moment as you two loaded the boxes into the back of his truck.
"Bye Pope!" you shouted as you waved and left Heyward's, heading to the black vehicle. Rafe walked ahead of you to open your door. The act surprised you, but you still smiled and thanked him. He jogged over to his side before slipping in and starting the truck.
"I'm sorry about that. I didn't mean to say that. I'm just used to being mean to them," Rafe tried to apologize as he kept his eyes locked onto the road ahead of him.
"Them? You mean the pogues? You realize I'm a pogue and that your father was one too. I don't get why you hate us so much. We just want to live on this island in peace but you and your asshole friends won't let that happen," you told him, being completely open and transparent with him.
"Would you even work at this job with me if my dad didn't pay you well?" he asked, his eyes glanced at you from a minute before returning to the road. You deliberated for a moment before continuing with your honesty.
"I mean you're not unbearable, Rafe. You can be easy to be with and sometimes even enjoyable to hang around. Sometimes I have fun working with you but when things like what just happened happen, the money is the only reason I'm here." He smiled a bit at hearing you had fun with him.
"You're not too bad either, y/n," he joked and you swatted his arm as you giggled.
"What would you say if I asked you to hang out outside of work?" Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion as to why Rafe Cameron would want to hang out with you, a pogue, for reasons other than because he had to.
"For one, my friends would hate it and so would yours, and for two, why would you want to hang out with me anyway?"
"You're fun to be around," he blushed lightly as he waited for your response.
"Well, then I guess I'd say yes."
