Rafe snuggled your body further into his, your face right in the crook of his neck. It took everything in you not to take a bite and suck him dry of any blood because his scent was so appetizing. Your mouth watered for it.
"I think I'm gonna head home. I'm kinda tired," you told Rafe as you sat up. He leaned to turn on the lamp before looking to you with tired eyes. He was almost asleep.
"You can stay here. You've done it before. You never stay the night anymore. Please stay," he practically begged. You wanted to stay, but you couldn't. You would hate yourself if you hurt Rafe.
"No, I should really go home," you said and slipped out of the bed.
"Well, let me take you home," Rafe offered, but you quickly declined.
"No, it's okay. I kinda want to walk home." You wanted to run to the mainland to find someone to feed on and then run home like nothing ever happened.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah," you answered as you bent down to put your shoes on.
"Hey, look at me," Rafe whispered. You didn't want to because you knew your irises would be reddened due to your hunger for blood. You had only hoped that the dim lighting would hide that.
"Why are your eyes so... red?" he asked when you met his eyes.
"I'm tired, babe. I want to go home and go to sleep in my own bed," you told him as you shrugged it off, trying to make your eyes appear heavier to add on to the tired look.
"No, it's your irises. They're red." The concern in his voice was evident and his face showed the same deep concern.
"I'm sure it's nothing. Maybe it's the light messing with your vision or something."
"I don't think so. Come here." Rafe grabbed your hand to pull you to him but you fought back, shutting your eyes and trying to get away. He immediately showed you who was boss when he pinned your arms down above your head and hovered over your body.
"Open your eyes," he commanded. You giggled before using your newfound vampire strength to pin him down. Your hair covered your eyes from the light so you didn't care if they were open now.
"When did you get so strong?" Rafe asked with wide eyes. You have never been stronger than him. The only times you'd pin him down was if he let you, but you did this by yourself.
"When my eyes turned red," you sighed as you moved off of him and sat down. "I have something to tell you."
"You can tell me anything you know," he made you feel comfortable by running his thumb over the back of your hand.
"I can't fall asleep anymore and I never eat either. My eyes are red at night and I'm stronger and faster." He nodded, asking you to continue. "I'm a vampire, Rafe."
