"it's okay, rafe," you whispered as you squeezed his hand in yours to give him even more assurance that you were there and weren't leaving him. you could tell he was trying really hard to keep calm or at least appear stoic as you both meandered through the dark misty halls.

the haunted house was kelce's idea, a last-ditch effort to have a little fun before halloween was over. you'd all just came from a party so you each had at least a drop of alcohol in you, but still felt like doing something else hence the haunted house. rafe wasn't a big fan of these kinds of things. i know, big strong rafe cameron was scared of a haunted house? it didn't make sense. he could definitely deck anyone or anything that came his way. you'd seen him do it for your protection before. it's weird for sure but something about creepy crawlers and things popping out at him made him feel uneasy.

"i've got you, baby," you softly spoke, your thumb rubbing into the skin of the back of his hand. "look at me. it's not real." once his eyes connected with yours, his expression softened and his tensed shoulders relaxed a bit. he sent you a gentle grin as you led him forward, following the path through the house.

you hoped it would be over soon and those hopes grew when a clown jumped out at you and rafe. his hand left your grasp before it grabbed at the back of your top, tugging you towards him. the force of his pull caused your back to hit his chest so hard that you surely would've tumbled if his arm hadn't snaked around your waist protectively. your hands flew to hold his arm to stable yourself as well. his head dipped down you your ear while his eyes remained focused on the clown.

"stay with me, okay?" he told you as his breath fanned over your skin, goosebumps rising in its wake. you rubbed your hand over the arm that trapped you against him and leaned further back into his chest.

"of course. i'm right here, baby."
