"your sister sure loves to shop, doesn't she?" you whispered to rafe as you watched sarah and topper walking a bit ahead of you through down the dress shop. scarlet was supposed to go shopping with sarah today but bailed, saying that her mother was making her go midsummers shopping with her which you understood. scarlet's mother was the kind of mom who tried to be best friends with her children rather than a parental figure, but that meant scarlet could get away with a lot more than others could. so when sarah roped you in, you made rafe come too. that led to topper coming as well and you all needed to go shopping for midsummers in reality so it wasn't so bad. before he could agree with you, sarah piped up from behind a rack of dresses.

"y/n! come here, this would look perfect on you. you have to try it on!" the girl practically squealed while pulling the green dress off the rack by its hanger and showing it to you. you hadn't had much luck in finding your midsummers dress, but sarah did manage to always find the perfect things for you, hence the bags of other stuff on your arms that were quite literally weighing you down. you'd try on the dress regardless just to give your arms a break, but you did think it'd look good on you so you agreed.

you found a dressing room rather quickly and dropped the hefty bags on the floor with a groan. after stretching out your arms to help regain some feeling in your limbs, you stripped yourself of your clothes and slipped on the dress. just by the looks of it, the shade of green complimented your skin beautifully, so much so that this could be the dress that you decided on to wear to midsummers. you reached back to zip it up but it was just beyond your fingertips, so you held the material close to your chest and cracked the door open a sliver.

"sarah," you whisper-yelled, not wanting to alert the whole store that you needed assistance. rolling your eyes, you opened the door a little wider before spotting rafe and calling him over instead.

"what's wrong? is this one not working either?" he asked genuinely, something that caught you off guard since you were used to his sarcasm when he was doing something he didn't want to do like shopping.

"no, i think it might be the one but i need you to zip me up to see if it fits. come in here." before he could protest, the hand that wasn't covering your chest grabbed his wrist and pulled him in. you turned around to give him access to the zipper and you watched his brows furrow in concentration that the given task. his fingertips brushed your skin while he fiddled with the zipper for a moment before pulling it up easily. you stood up straighter when he finished and let your hand fall from holding the dress up as you glanced over your reflection in the mirror. you looked up from your reflection to see his and noticed his parted lips and flushed cheeks.

"why are you looking at me like that? do you not like it? maybe we should go back to the other store and get the black one because that's the closest to a good one i've found all day," you huffed, annoyed that you just could not find a dress that flattered you after looking in so many stores.

"no," rafe spoke quickly. "no, i like this one. i like it a lot. i think you should pick this one. do you want to go outside and look at it in a better light?" he asked after reassuring you. his words calmed your nerves and you nodded before he opened the door.

"well, well, well, what do we have here?" topper quipped upon seeing you and rafe exiting the dressing room but you flipped him off.

"someone's girlfriend left me and i needed help with the zipper, asshole," you retorted before sarah gasped.

"y/n, that is the one! i love it and it looks so good on you," she complimented and you couldn't help the smile that grew on your face.

"that's what i was telling her," rafe added with a smile that dropped as soon as he caught sight of topper's smirk. he rolled his eyes at the boy and turned his attention back to you.

"even i'll admit it, that dress was made for you, y/n," topper added in.

"thank you, topper," you spoke sarcastically. "well, i guess i'm getting this one. rafe, you wanna help unzip me?"

"i'm sure he wants to help do more than unzip you," topper jeered to which he received two unhappy glares in return. rafe left your dressing room right after he helped you pull the zipper down and you were quick to get changed and grab your things.

"here, let me help," rafe spoke up from beside you when you opened the door with much struggle due to your full arms. he grabbed most of the bags from your grasp, leaving you with a victoria secret bag, one from a jewelry store, and the dress you'd just tried on.

"oh, you don't have to do that, rafe," you started but he shook his head.

"my hands were free anyway."

"where'd sarah and topper go?" you inquired once you noticed their disappearance.

"she heard there was a sale at the next store over." you nodded while walking towards the check-out register.

"i'm gonna be honest with you rafe, but i don't know how much more of this i can handle," you mentioned as you got in line behind a couple.

"you want to dip?" he offered. "sarah and topper have been leaving randomly the whole day anyway. i doubt they'd even notice." you weighed out your options in your head before nodding.

"yeah, but i'm going to text her to let her know in case she does start looking for us." he agreed while watching you type out a message to his sister and then let out a yawn right after. your head rested against his arm tiredly as you stood next to him. "you are a lifesaver, rafe."

"yeah, i try." for you, he would do anything.
