In the morning we sit in the hall. Breakfast is over so all the children are outside spending the day getting lost. Since a day ago, the library is no longer our hang out. Although we haven't said it, we just know that we all agree to stay in safe zones like the hall and the cabins.
"I think I'd rather space then eat another bowl of oatmeal," Harper complains. "It's been like years and all we eat is oatmeal." A smile stretches across my face. She complains about the oatmeal every day. I never really minded, they gave us little cut apple slices with every bowl and the only time we would have oatmeal was for breakfast. I liked using the spoon to look at my reflection when no one was looking because sometimes I would forget what I looked like. I would even forget the colour of my eyes, mornings were when I would remind myself.
"Are we going to the gap?" Theo asks, he has not said a word to me all morning, let alone glance in my direction.
"No, I haven't seen the new building yet, well not from up close." I saw it when I was walking to the hall. The building is white and much smaller than all the buildings and cabins here. I insisted we go and check it out, but Harper's big appetite insisted we eat first.
"Promise, you guys won't do anything stupid." Theo pleads. "We are just looking around right?"
"For once I agree with Theo, maybe we should lay off the investigating before we actually space, or worse." Harpers says.
As she says this my mind flashes an image of that girl who had bled, the girl I had killed. It causes hairs on the back of my neck to stand. Guilt still weighs heavy on my chest but the thought of not knowing whether death or spacing is worse scares me the most.
"Okay, we'll play it safe." I agree.

When we get to the new building, it is about 4:20pm. We even stopped by the school to check. We planned to go so late because 4:30pm was the supposed time she would leave into the other room. Looking at the building from up close it looks freshly painted with white paint among the sides of the building. The front is occupied by giant glass windows and a door made of glass, but it is made so that the glass is not transparent. There are five steps that lead the sliver handle of the door. Apart of me had the sudden urge to storm in and demand answers but I keep myself at bay.
Everything inside the building is just how Theo described it. The room is all white except for the grey marble like desktop. A giant clock with silver numbers and hands rests on the back wall facing towards us. The seconds hand is a bright red, ticking away in a clockwise motion.
"Shit, this place is creepy." Harper says. I nod my head in agreement.
The silver hair woman sits at the desk looking at white sheets of paper. The concentration on her face makes her look much older than normal. Two lines rest on her forehead and smaller ones beside her silver eyes. She has high cheek bones and thin pink painted lips. she should be able to see us, but she seems completely aware of the three of us standing infant of the building.
"Now what?" I say turning to Theo and Harper.
"Well, it's 4:28pm," he says pointing at the clock. "In three minutes, she should leave."
"And if she does then what?" I ask.
"We'll see if she notices us and we could try opening the door." Harper suggests.
"But what if it's just like the fence?" Theo agues.
"What do you think we should do then?" Harper ask, "It's not like we'll go in, we are just seeing if we can Theo."
