I hadn't actually ever met her. She was way more intimidating in Coby's head than in real life. It's 11:20 am, twenty minuets after the session started and she still hasn't said anything. I stand from my chair and walk casually to the door.
"Where do you think you are going Mr. Price?" She asks. I turn to face her and she's actually looking up at me.
"Back to class, where else?" I ask back.
"I still have ten minutes with you." She tells me fiddling with the white pen in her frail hand. I exhale a sigh as I sit back down.
"Why am I here exactly?" I ask her while I'm still holding her gaze.
"Well, I have never actually met you Mr. Price. You weren't at 'summer camp', and I'm quite curious as to know how I have never seen you." She tells me, but it seems as if she just talking to herself. "I understand that you have lost the focus of this segment because you are all aware, but had you been at camp you still would be...." She shakes her head a little. "You weren't at camp, how are you... like the others?" Her question direct at me this time.
"The fact that you think I'm going to tell you is something." I tell her.
"Well if you want to ensure that your girlfriend stays your girlfriend. It would be a shame if someone came back to take her from you." She smiles.
"I don't have a girlfriend." I shrug. She couldn't be talking about Lia.
"I'm sure miss James would say otherwise." She says. 'If someone came back to take her from you.' If he came back.
"What do you mean come back and claim her?" I ask. If there a way to bring him back, I'd do whatever it takes.
"I can help you if you tell me where you were." She offers.
"No, you said he'd come back, how would he come back?" I ask. I'm starting to let myself go but I dont care.
"A colored is threatening my operation Mr. Price. I can't tell you until you help me." She shakes her head.
"Don't." I say a little to harshly. "Don't call her that." She pauses a while, as if she's replaying the conversation back in her head. Her brows furrow for a moment before she reveals a grin between her thin lips.
"I see." She nods tucking a silver strand back into her bun.
"See what?"
"I see the assumptions I had made were wrong. How long have you known Coby Ray?"
"We hung out before camp and when I came back I found out he was...." I pause sugar coating my lie, then stand and make my way to the door.
"Where are you going?" She asks me.
"Times up." I tell her.
