HAPRER PRICE

I sit on the hood of J.P's car watching Theo roll out his bike. He gets up onto the seat and stands there for a while then swings his leg back off the bike and turns to me. He lets the bike fall onto the ground and walks over, climbing up next to me on the hood.

"Hey." He says with a half smile,  I don't really feel like talking. "You know, I swear we haven't talked since camp. Weird, cause I don't think I know you Harper Price."

"What do you mean?" I ask him.

"Well, I used to know you as Harper. You'd tease me and we played soccer and race and I'd read to you. But now, you are Harper Price and all I learnt was that you have a twin brother and your dad is the head of police here."

"There not much to learn." I shrug.

"Then this should be quick." He smiles, wholeheartedly this time. "You don't have to tell the entire world Harper, just tell me." I exhale a breath I may have been holding for a while now.

"J.P wasn't supposed to have a twin sister. I wasn't supposed to be at camp." I tell him. "Chief.....  my dad, made me go with my brother even though I wasn't invited. He didn't want me around."

"Is that all?" He laughs. I turn my gaze towards him. "Join the club Harper. I'm used to not being wanted. You are not a mistake Harper. We needed you, Xylia needed you. Wanting to be needed is not always selfish."

"But I'm not very helpful, remember?" I say but I quick wish I could take it back. Theo's smile disappears and he looks up at me. Suddenly I feel worse but at the same time, I am feeling much better then I did before. I missed this with Theo. I missed Theo. Even here, even with his stupid alter ego, inside Theo Millar is still the chubby kid who caught me by the fence. I know he's set up, but he made me who I am. He will always be the only one I never had to impress. Jesus I sound like her.

"I'm sorry," he says, "we did need you. Ly told me the lady said she knew everything already and how this whole thing is supposed to go. You are exactly what we needed. It means us getting out would have never happened without you being at camp and your brother spacing." I take a moment to think this through. Everything till that moment had been a mistake. I had even accidentally tripped over Xylia and fell onto the fence which gave me my memories. "Whoever you were, whoever you are Harper Price doesn't change the fact that we always needed you." He turns himself to face me, making sure our eyes lock. "You were, are the first girl I ever loved, and I think you ending up at camp was one of the best things that ever happened."

The only girl he'd ever love.

"Anyway, you know what Ly would say," He continues.

"Maybe it was all for the best." We say together, laughter arising from within us both.

"See?" Theo smiles.

"How is she always right?" I joke.

"Because...." I see the light in his head turn on as stops for a moment. "She.... already knows what happens before it happens." He tells me. "I need to go talk to Ly."
