"You are a popular choice Jessie, for both men and women." Xavier laughs.
"You and Theo?" I grin. "He's...."
"Unaware... in his own world...... detached." Xavier says.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Nothing." He smiles. "Forget it Jessie Price."
"I think I like him better gay." I tell him.
"Yeah, so do I." Xavier says. I walk over and sit besides him.
"I was looking for Lia." I tell him. "She hasn't been around all day and I can't find her."
"You really like her right?" He asks. I nod. "Well you know that girl is one of the smartest women I know, she'll be fine wherever she is brother."
"I know, I just don't want her doing things alone." I tell him.
"Ahh, Coby Ray. She's just like him." He laughs as if something just made sense to him, but his smile quickly disappears. "I haven't been here since that day." He mutters. We both look around, taking in our sunset lit surroundings.
"I never imagined we'd be here, together." I tell Xavier. "He should be here." Xavier nods and puts his arm around my shoulders. We sit like this for a while, listening to the trees rustle.
"Xylia Africana is once in a lifetime. Theo told me this a while ago, but I think I'm only now starting to get it." He tells me. "She's only here for one purpose and she won't keep anyone around for it. Coby Ray... was always meant to be and no matter what we will see him again."
"I won't let her go, if that's what you mean." I tell him. He laughs and shakes his head.
"I know you won't, but she will, and you'll forget. You will spend life always knowing there was something missing in yo' life Jessie Price." He says. "That is how it's gonna be and I'm only now starting to accept it."
"I won't let her go." I tell him again. Xavier shakes his head and looks up at the sky.
"Do you think he watches us?"
I look up too and for once, I see the sky.
"Everyday." I reply.
"I think if I had stopped...." He sighs. "I'm sure we will see him again, promise." He holds little finger towards me. I do the same, wrapping our fingers together and pressing our thumbs, sealing Xavier's promise with a click.
