I wait in the schools' library after school. It is much smaller than the public one, but we had agreed that it's off limits for now. There are only two rows of bookshelves and a large main aisle in the middle with large wooden tables for study. The checkout desk sits at the front of the library overlooking all library tables.

"Hey Ly." Will calls. He walks in with Theo.

"Anything?" I ask.

"No, Theo has been how he's always been, a perfect student." Will laughs as Jessie and Harper join the table.

"We lost a game though." Theo sighs.

"The girls remain undefeated." Harper smirks.

"Anything?" I ask them.

"No, except I'm now the perfect student, acing all my subjects." She tells me.

"Harper is a perfect student? Get real." Theo smiles. She scrunches her brows.

"So what, being...away has made us perfect students and lousy friends?" I ask.

"Well not exactly, Jessie is hosting a party at our place tonight." Harper says. "Apparently he set it up in February, dad agreed and everything."

"Why?" I ask Jessie confused.

"Apparently is our birthday, the whole grade is invited." He shrugs.

"You guys should come, get your minds off of all this for a bit." Harper suggests. "We have to go now anyway."

"But what if it happens again?" Theo asks as the stand up to leave.

"Nothing bad happened anyway, we just have to.... stay awake, we should check on each other at the party." She says. "See you there."

I decide to wear the wide legged jeans and green turtleneck I already had on to the party and go downstairs.

"Do you want to eat before you go?" Momma asks from the kitchen.

"No it's fine." I look at the time and it's only 6:30. I am just about to leave when someone knocks on the door. "I'll get it."

"Hey...you're not wearing that are you?" Maddison says when she opens the door. She is wearing a light blue dress with a white vest. Her blonde hair has been curled outwards, her bangs curled towards her brows. "Hey Mrs Reeves, is it okay if Ly stays at my place after the party."

"As long as your parents are fine with it honey, don't stay out too long Ly."

"We won't." Maddison replies dragging me up the stairs to my room. She begins digging through my wardrobe.

"I like what I'm wearing." I tell her.

"Xylia, this is a party we are going to, J.P's party, and since when did you start wearing denim jeans in March?" she asks me. "Here," she hands me a Jean shirt and cropped orange fitting shirt. I change in the bathroom leaving on my sneakers then step out to show her.

"I know, I know, what would you do without me." She jokes poking me in the ribs. "I missed us, what happened with you before?"

"I just wasn't..."

"Feeling like yourself, I know, I know but you could have talked to me. You know I'm here for you." She assures me.

"I know, but you wouldn't believe me even if I told you."

Their house is much bigger than I imagined. It's about 7:30pm when we arrive, we stopped at Andy's for some burgers and ended up staying for longer than intended. Inside people are in every corner of their living space, some hang around outside on the veranda. I have never actually been to a house party, seeing everyone together in a non-school environment is amusing in a way.
