Today is my graduation day and it's been eight long years coming. I have wanted to be a veterinarian for as long as I could remember.

I loved watching my dad and helping out as a kid when different animals were having babies. Dad said I was a natural and I knew at an early age that was my calling.

I look at myself in the mirror one more time before joining my big family downstairs.

"Let's go graduate Poppy," I said to myself.

The family has grown so much. Uncle Derrick married Aunt Emma when I was a baby and they have a son named Damon and Uncle Austin married Aunt Rosa when I was six and they have a son named Brennon.

As for Uncle Emerson and Chad, I don't think they will ever marry or have kids. There are also so many more houses been built on the Ranch.

I love my huge family and when I walked downstairs they were all smiling at me including our new Ranch vet Luke.

"Let's get you graduated sweetheart," Dad said wrapping his arm around me.

Waiting to be called across the stage it seems unreal that I finally made it and hopefully dad will let me take over the Ranch.

"Poppy Grace Maverick." The announcer said as I walked across the stage to receive my diploma.

I could hear my family screaming my name as I took my diploma and walked off the stage.

Once the commencement was over we headed back to the Ranch where Aunt Emma and Aunt Sidney had a party set up for me.

The Texas sun was pouring down on the tents they had set up but it was nice. We had cake and ice cream and chips and chocolate-covered strawberries.

My grandma Nancy and Josie made everything special for today along with Clara. I was so happy and loved seeing all of my family here.

Grandpa Daniel walked over and sit beside me. "Hey Poppy! I'm happy I got to watch you graduate today."

"Thanks for coming grandpa." I smiled over at him.

He handed me an envelope. "A little present to open later when you are alone." He said.

"You didn't have to do that but thank you, grandpa." I leaned over and hugged him.

Lilly walked over and sit beside me. She's been my best friend since ninth grade when we started high school.

"Is Garth coming?" I asked her.

"He said he would be here in a bit. He was stuck at work." She smiled.

We both met Garth in the ninth grade in science class and they took to each other right away. They are so cute together.

I look over and see Luke laughing with dad and it just makes me mad. I don't want him here. We don't need three vets on the Ranch and since dad is retiring soon he wants me to work with Luke.

Brennon walked over and sit down putting his arm around me. "I'm proud of you cuz. Ready to help me with the cows in the morning?"

"Of course. How many are pregnant?" I asked him.

We have around seven but two are close." He said just as Damon walked over and sit on the other side of Brennon.

Even though I'm six and eight years older than them we are all very close including my brother Hart who couldn't get off of work to celebrate with us.

Luke walked over and sit across from us at the table. "Congrats Poppy."

"Thanks, Luke!" I half-smiled.

"Brennon told me we have a couple of cows ready to give birth. I guess I'm going to pull an all-nighter in the barn." He said.

"I guess that's what I will be doing as well," I said.

I'm as stubborn as they come and I will be damned if I let him bring the calf's into this world without me.

Aunt Jess walked over and put her hands on my shoulders. "When can I get some of those lashes you came out with?"

"Soon! Mom has them in production. It's funny to be Holland's daughter and not care for makeup but I do love some lashes and lip gloss." I laugh looking up at her.

"Well, I can't wait." Aunt Jess smiled.

Mom walks over. What's going on?"

"Talking about my lashes. Aunt Jess wants some." I said.

"They will be out next Wednesday I'm pretty sure." Mom said.

"Can we get some of these lashes for the cows?" Brennon laughed.

"Hush!" I giggle and look over at look who's laughing.

I got up to go get some cake and when I came back Uncle Chad was in my spot so I walked around the table and sit next to Luke when Garth walked up with Lilly.

"Congrats Poppy!" Garth said.

"Thanks, Garth! Go get you some food." I said.

"So what's next Poppy?" Uncle Chad asked.

"The usual... Sit around and wait for a calf to be born." I smiled.

"I remember when your mom came for her visit and a horse was being born and she sit in the barn with your dad all night and she was amazed." He said.

"I've heard that story a few times." I smiled eating my chocolate-covered strawberry.

I looked over and Luke was watching me while Uncle Chad was watching him.

Dad walked over with grandpa Jack... "Poppy we got you a graduation present."

"What? You shouldn't have guys." I said.

Dad put a set of keys in my hand. "Your Camry is on its last leg and well we know how much you love a truck like your momma."

"You didn't!" I said snatching the keys and running around the house. When I saw it I stopped dead in my tracks.

There set my dream truck. A black dodge ram truck with black wheels and grill.

I turned around and everyone was standing there. I walked back over to my dad. "Thanks, dad I love it!" I said kissing him on the cheek.

**I realized after finishing this story that I somehow changed Dustin to Austin oops! But it's the same person 😂😅**
