The next morning we were ready to go home with our new baby boy.
I pulled the truck around while the nurse brought out Poppy and Ryder in his carrier.
Once in the truck, I looked back at Poppy and smiled. She was in the backseat with Ryder.
Once we made it home Worth walked down and asked if we were up for company and Poppy said yes because not everyone had met Ryder yet.
When Daniel walked in he had big tears in his eyes. "I never thought I would live to see a great-grandchild come into this world."
"Do you want to hold him, grandpa?" Poppy asked.
"Of course I do." He said.
"When Nancy sits down beside Daniel and looked at Ryder she begins to cry. "He looks so much like Worth but he has a birthmark on his neck in the same place my Kevin did." She said.
"Really grandma? That's so special to me since none of us got to meet Uncle Kevin." Poppy said.
"Ask your mom for pictures and you will see it," Nancy said.
I saw Poppy texting on her phone and I figured it was to her mom.
"Would you guys like some lemonade?" I asked.
"Sure that sounds nice," Daniel said.
It wasn't long until Worth and Holland showed up and she handed Poppy pictures and then showed me.
"Wow, that's something else." I smiled.
"Well, Uncle Kevin is with us after all." Poppy smiled.
Daniel handed Ryder over to Nancy and she cried the whole time and I felt bad but I think she was just shocked to see the birthmark on Ryder.
Poppy was sore and barely moving when she got up to go to the bathroom. I excused myself to help her to the bathroom.
"Are you ok?" I asked.
"Yeah just really sore and well I feel bad for grandma Nancy." She said.
"So do I. I'm not sure if those are happy tears or sad ones." I said making a face.
I helped her off the toilet and kissed her as she washed her hands. When we walked back out Holland was in Ryder's room changing his diaper.
"Mom, you need help with that?" Poppy asked.
"I'm good just making him smell better." She laughed.
I helped Poppy back to her seat before taking a seat beside her.
Holland walked back out with Ryder and Worth wanted to hold him.
He's not going to have any hide left on his body by the time they get done.
"Well we better get going I have some jam to make," Daniel said.
"We are happy you come by grandpa." Poppy said.
"You sure have a cute baby," Nancy said.
"Thanks, Grandma! Love you both and come back soon." Poppy said.
Once they left Worth handed Ryder over to Poppy because he was crying and probably hungry. I grabbed her cover-up and put it on her shoulder before she begins feeding him.
"Well, we should probably get up to the house and leave you guys alone because I know everyone will be wanting their turn to see him." Worth said.
"Thanks for coming guys!" I said.
"I will be back with supper so you don't have to try and move around Poppy." Worth said.
"Thanks, dad love you both!" She smiled.
Once they left she got Ryder fed and burped and I took him and put him in his bed to sleep.
This house is so small you couldn't miss it if he begins crying.
I walked back to the living room and Poppy was sitting up asleep. "Hey, why don't you go take a nap while he is sleeping and I'll listen for him."
"Are you sure Luke?" She asked.
"I'm positive. Go take a nap and if anyone comes I'll make them be quiet." I laughed.
"Thank you! I really could use a nap." She said.
I helped her to the bed and not long after someone knocked on the door. I opened the door and saw my parents standing there smiling.
"Come on in guys but shhh Poppy and Ryder are asleep," I said.
"Oh no I wanted to hold him but we don't want to wake a sleeping baby or momma," Mom whispered.
"You don't have to whisper mom but they both haven't been down long," I said.
"So who's come to see him yet?" Dad asked.
"Daniel and Nancy and then Worth and Holland. Poor Nancy she had a breakdown. Turns out Ryder has the same birthmark as their son Kevin who died many years ago." I said.
"Oh wow really? That mark on his neck?" Mom asked.
"Yeah here are the pictures of Kevin as a baby that Holland brought over," I said handing them to her.
"Oh wow, that really is something. How did he die?" Mom asked.
"I think a car accident when he was twenty-four," I said.
Ryder begin crying and I went to go get him but mom wanted to go. "I will change his diaper and bring him in here." She said.
Poppy walked into the living room looking around. "Mom is taking care of him you can go back to bed if you need to," I said.
She smiled. "No, I'm good just thirsty. Do you guys want a drink?" She asked.
"I'll take whatever you have Poppy," Dad said.
"I'll help you get some lemonade," I said following her to the kitchen.
"You should have woke me up Luke when your parents got here." She said.
"No, we wanted to let you sleep because you need it," I said kissing her lips.
We got the drinks and headed back to the living room when Mom walked through with Ryder.
"He's such an easy-going baby not to mention so handsomely." Mom said.
"Of course he's the cutest baby you have ever seen mom." I laughed.
"He is handsome just like his daddy." Poppy said.
"You mean like your dad. There is no denying that he has Maverick in him." I laughed.
