Why am I laying in bed thinking of Luke?

When his finger touched my lip and then we made eye contact and he looked down at my lips I just wanted to kiss him.

I'm not sure why I felt that way about him. I mean he's a good-looking guy sure but I don't want to look at him that way.

I look forward to hanging out with him while we check on animals and I feel like maybe I'm crossing the line but I saw how he looked at my lips.

He wanted to kiss me too and I don't know what to do about it. What if we do kiss and then it ruins what we have just started?

"Turn over Poppy and go to sleep," I said out loud as I fluffed my pillow.

Not long after I drifted off to sleep my phone beeped and I grabbed it thinking an animal was in labor.

📱 Poppy are you awake?

📱 I am now Luke. What's up?

📱 Sorry I woke you but umm I'm hungry. Do you think that there are any leftover burgers?

📱 You woke me up for a cheeseburger?

📱 Yes? 😆

📱 Fine meet me at the kitchen door.

I threw on some jogging pants and quietly went downstairs to the kitchen. I unlocked the door and Luke was standing there.

"Hi!" He smiled.

"Get in here Luke," I said.

"Is that what you wear to bed Poppy?"

"Wouldnt you like to know?" I smirked.

"Maybe I do." He mumbled.

I grabbed the burgers out of the fridge and a bun and heated them up in the microwave.

I handed Luke his burger and I grabbed a couple of brownies and we went outside to sit under the tent.

"I hope the microwave didn't wake them up," I said.

"Hopefully no one will hear. Thanks for the burger I couldn't sleep thinking about it." He laughed.

I bit into my brownie... "Well, this is a great midnight snack."

"Where you really asleep Poppy?"

"I was asleep. Had been asleep maybe for thirty minutes." I said.

"I'm sorry I bothered you. I didn't really want to just walk in here even though I have permission." He said.

"Anytime you want food you can come in Luke," I said.

"Thanks for being nice to me. I thought you were going to be a bitch when I first met you." He said.

"Honestly I had planned on it but you're growing on me, Luke." I smiled at him and bumped shoulders with him.

"Since we are up do you want to go check on the animals?" He asked.

"Sure as soon as we finish eating," I said handing him over a brownie.

"Thanks, I needed this even though I'm going to need to run laps around this Ranch with the love handles I'm developing." He laughed.

"Love handles my ass. You don't have any." I laughed.

"Neither do you. How have you eat this all of your life and not gain any weight?" He asked.

"Good metabolism maybe?" I laughed.

We finished eating and headed out to the stables. I watched as Luke threw the trash away and we walked over to check on different animals.

We met up at the horses and fed them a few apples and then walked back outside.

"Are you sleepy Poppy?"

"No not really what do you have in mind Luke?"

"Let's go sit on my porch." He said.

I followed him over to his porch and we sit on the steps side by side and talked until 2 am.

"I better get home and go to sleep because we have to be up in four hours to do this all over again." I laughed.

"I would invite you in to take a nap but your dad would kill me." He shrugged.

"Yeah, I don't have far to walk I think I will be ok. Goodnight Luke."

"Goodnight Poppy sweet dreams."

He stood on the porch and watched me until I walked into the house. I turned and waved at him and closed the door.

"Sweetheart, what are you doing up?" Dad said.

"Jesusssss you scared the crap out of me dad." I laughed.

"You didn't answer my question Poppy."

"Well, a few hours ago Luke texted me that he was hungry so I unlocked the door for him so he could eat a burger," I said.

"A burger at midnight?" Dad laughed.

"Luke said he was hungry so I heated him up a burger and grabbed some brownies and we went outside to eat them and then went to check on the animals," I said.

"I thought you didn't like Luke at first but I'm glad to see that you are getting along," Dad said.

"Yeah at first I didn't want to like him but he's growing on me and a very nice guy who knows a lot about animals and I could learn a few things from him," I said smiling over at dad.

"Go to bed Poppy. I love you." Dad said.

"I love you too dad," I said walking over kissing his cheek.

As soon as I got in bed I drifted off to sleep and it wasn't long until the alarm was going off.

I jumped out of bed and took a shower and pulled my hair up in a bun and got dressed and headed downstairs.

When I walked into the kitchen everyone was around the table having a big breakfast.

I looked over and saw Luke sitting at the table and I went sit beside him.

"Morning Poppy."

"Morning Luke! Get any sleep?"

"Yeah, some after getting my stomach full and I'm about to eat again." He laughed.

"I think we will need to run around the Ranch sometime today." I laughed.

Clara set a plate down in front of both of us. "Dig in guys before it gets cold."

"Don't have to tell me twice." Chad laughed.

When I took my first bite and looked over at Luke he had his eyes closed. I leaned over and whispered to him. "That good?"

"So good." He smiled.
