| Ricky's POV |
Dinner was rather quiet. We didn't eat at the table, because Jani and I rarely do really. The three of us sat in the living room, with the TV playing on in the background. It honestly was white noise because the silence was so loud.
Jani set his plate down on the coffee table, then pulled out his phone. He scrolled through the notifications, taking a certain amount of concern to one it seemed. I heard him groan as he read over a text. "It looks like I can't stay tonight after all. I'm sorry, Baby."
"Why? What's wrong?" I asked as I felt my eyes swell.
"I just need to go home." He said.
"You promised." I whispered.
Jani looked at me a little tempered. He didn't like me talking back so much and questioning him. "I said I was sorry. I'll make it up to you, Ricky. Okay?"
I sighed. "Okay. I'll be okay, I've got Ghost to keep me company."
He glanced over at Ghost, then back at me as he grit his teeth. "Right. I gotta head out."
"Okay," I replied. "I love you."
"Love you!" He called, halfway out the door.
I fell back against the couch and sighed again. He hasn't spent the night in a while and I don't know if I can take waking up alone again. Plus, if we're leaving for tour soon, I want to be able to spend some quality time with him.
"He's not faithful to you." Ghost suddenly mumbled.
"H-huh? Why would you say that?" I gasped.
"Ricky, c'mon. Why else would he have to go home?" He pointed out the most obvious thing, that I was denying.
Ghost sighed when I didn't say anything. He moved over on the couch and put his arm over my shoulder. Both of us had our legs pulled up against our chest, and I was keeping my arms crossed tightly over my chest.
"I refuse to believe that he'd do that to me, Dev. Jani wouldn't hurt me like that."
"Up until today, I said the same thing about Kylie." Ghost replied.
"And?"
He glanced away. "Four years, I thought I knew her. Then she showed another side of herself, one I could never love. She made it clear she didn't want kids. I always thought I could convince her otherwise, we had plenty of time for me to. It wasn't like we were going to get married anytime soon. Then, today, she tells me she's pregnant and going to abort it. I told her there was no way I was letting her do it. I don't care if that kid is in her body, it's still 50% mine."
"Oh, I'm sorry, Devin. That's... Wow. What are you going to do?" I asked.
"Get a pro-life attorney. I know I can't convince her out of it, so I'm going to have to fight her legally to continue the pregnancy. If I win that, fight for full custody."
He said it as if it was so simple, when it wasn't. This was going to be a mess!
"Do you think you're ready to be a dad?"
He shrugged. "I don't know, but I don't have a choice. I've got to man up."
"And stop worrying about my stupid ass." I snickered as I rested my head on his shoulder.
"I'll never stop worrying about you. Got that? By the way, waita deflect the subject away from yourself." He chuckled.
"It's a talent." I smirked.
Ghost laughed, giving my shoulder a tight squeeze. "We'll make it. That's why we have each other. Hey, did Chris get back to you about his meeting this morning?"
"No, I'll text him." I replied.
I picked up my phone. His name was already at the top of my messages, because I talk to him so much.
Hey, how was the meeting?
Chris - Good! Sorry I got caught up with errands all day. Looks like we're going to have a long tour. Whole U.S., three months. We'll leave in a few weeks.
A few weeks? "A few weeks?" I gawked out loud. "He said we're leaving in a few weeks! We usually get a few months!"
"Does it matter? You'll wait to pack until the night before." Ghost chuckled.
"I always do that." I said matter-of-fact-ly. "I'm not worried about that. I won't have much time to spend with Jani."
"Oh, you don't need him!"
"Yes I do!"
"No you don't! Take it from someone that's been cheated on, he's up to no good, Ricky. I don't trust him."
"But I love him. Doesn't that count for something."
Ghost sighed. He didn't know what to say, so he just rubbed my arm up and down and gave me a sympathetic smile.
I rested my head on his shoulder again. "Love is dumb."
He laid his head against mine. "I know. Trust me, I know."
