| Ricky's POV |
During the drive to Virginia, all I did was sleep. It was the only thing I could do to forget the pain. In my dreams, I could escape everything. That was, until I had another nightmare, which woke me up. I laid there with heavy breaths. My chest rose and fell, shooting with pain every other second. My heart was pounding!
Someone ripped open my bunk curtain. I jumped again, just because the nightmare had me on edge.
"Shhhh." Devin soothed me as he stood there. He put his hand on my head. "You have a bad fever."
"I don't feel sick. I'll be fine." I muttered.
"Ricky, you're sick. Don't lie to me. Are you going to be able to do the show tonight?"
"I'll be fine."
"You're not then." He replied. "When you say "fine", that's code for "i'm dying". You're not playing."
"Nooooo." I whined, sounding congested.
"We'll be fine. You won't. Just rest, okay?"
"I can't go back to sleep." I mumbled.
"Nightmare?" He asked, and I nodded. Devin sighed. "Lay in my bunk then."
Normally I'd argue, but not today. I wasn't feeling well, physically and emotionally. So he went and got me some meds from the bathroom cabinet, and I switched over to his bunk. I couldn't explain it, but even without him in the bunk with me, his bunk just felt comfortable.
I was stressed and depressed. Chris was mad at me. Now the rest of the band will be because I can't do the show. I was thankful I had Devin. He had such a kind heart, and no matter what, he'll be there for me. He might have cheated on me when we were together, but as best friends, I know he'd never hurt me.
| Chris' POV |
We all heard Ricky crying in his sleep. There was just a painful silence because none of us knew what to say. All I wanted to do was comfort him, but I couldn't right now. I was probably the reason he was crying!
Devin got up and addressed it. He was gone about ten minutes, then came back at sat back down.
"He's got the flu. I told him to go back to sleep and he can't do the show tonight." Devin said.
"We can't do the show without him." I replied. It was a little selfish on my part, I'll admit.
"We've done shows before with only one guitarist." Balz reminded me.
"And they sucked!" I retaliated.
"We'll be fine." He said. "Ricky's health is more important. The fans will understand that."
"Still, the flu doesn't make people cry in their sleep." I muttered.
"He had a nightmare. You know they get bad for him." Devin responded.
"Let's just get ready for the show, okay?" Ryan suggested. "Try to be positive and have him in our thoughts tonight."
