la plus belle malédiction

Monroe will be speaking french towards the end, so I wanted to give you a heads up!

MONROE

My mother always told me to pick my poison wisely. I never understood her or why poison would be something you pick to kill someone. Yes, it's a bit harder to trace, but if you are caught buying it or it is in your home, well then you can say goodbye to your freedom.

I now understand that she didn't always just mean poison as in a substance that can kill, but the little things in life that can kill. A simple glance or harsh glare can scare off millions of girls who dare to touch what is yours. Or a simple departure from reality can make you feel more free and make others around you feel guilty for not paying enough attention.

Maybe sometimes you have to push all your attention into wedding planning, school work, figuring out what to do with your life, or simply starting a new sport. Sometimes you have to make friends with your work, rather than with people. Sometimes you have to do whatever makes you feel sane enough.

That was quidditch for me. I had always loved the game and loved going to the world cup, but I was never allowed to be involved in the sport. As a pureblood woman, I was raised to be married off and bare children for my suitor. Quidditch was left for the girls who were muggleborn or half-bloods.

Once I realized what James was doing, I knew I couldn't give him quick justice. I had to make him on edge about me trying out for team seeker. I also didn't need the whole team thinking I made it because the captain was my best friend. They had to see that I was the best fit for the team.

I changed in the locker room into clothes that were better for tryouts. I don't think a Chanel skirt and jacket would be James Potter approved for quidditch tryouts. After changing into a different clothes, I grabbed the broom that was sent to me as a gift from Kade. He was the Slytherin seeker when he went to school.

Sirius was waiting for me outside the locker room and we headed out to the pitch together. James caught up with us and handed me the extra broom and Sirius the basket of bludgers and quaffles. James kept the snitch in his pocket, never allowing anyone, but him or the official team seeker have it.

As we walked out we were greeted with all the Gryffindors who dreamed of making the team. In the stans were Remus, Lily, Marlene, and Peter doing homework for us, since we wouldn't have time after tryouts to do so. Peter also felt guilty for what he did to me, so it was his way of repaying me.

All eyes were on me as I was the only girl trying out. A few sixth years let out a snarky remark, but quickly shut up as they got a deadly glare from Sirius. I couldn't help, but laugh seeing the power we held over them at the moment.

I knew I had a lot to live up too. Not only to last years seeker, but to Kade's legacy. He was the best Slytherin seeker they had seen in ages. His number of how many times he caught the snitch were the highest in history. Regulus was close to beating his record.

If I made the team I would only have a year as seeker, but I could still try to get even close to my brother's record. He had sent me one of his favorite brooms he used like playing. I ran my fingers across the "K. Airson." that was carved into the side of the broom. I had a legacy to live up to and continue for my future kids.

James gave his orders of what were he wanted everyone. Sirius gave me a quick kiss on the cheek before heading off to help with the beaters. He was the only one who made the team without trying out. He had been playing since his fifth year, but impressed the captain before James.

For seeker it was between another person and I. They looked to be a fifth or sixth year, but I could be wrong. James got the chasers and keepers started, before coming over and getting us started. He told us to mount our brooms and the first one to find and catch the snitch would make the team.
