I suddenly started a game of chess with His Majesty while hiding from my new attendant.
"...You have surprised me again," King Arundel said.
"Pardon?"
"...Most women I know around the Castle only like to engage in social pleasantries or talk about the latest trends," King Arundel said.
"I am not into the latest trends," I said.
"...Isn't everything you are wearing from your clothes to jewelry on trend?" King Arundel asked.
Ah...
"...Someone else coordinated my clothes," I answered as I finally took notice of my flashy dress and accessories.
"You do not coordinate your own clothes, Lady Charlotte?" King Arundel asked.
"I have been told that I have poor taste," I said.
My own mother packed my clothes of her choosing and threw out all of my comfortable but dated clothing without my knowledge and only left my pajamas during the purge.
"I think it is a shame..."
"Why do you think that, Your Majesty?" I asked curiously.
"It is a shame that you have poor choice in your own clothes, since you look good in everything you wear," King Arundel said.
Sweet words roll out of his mouth so easily. No wonder the Former Queen went crazy with jealousy...
Actually, it is not his fault completely...He married the Former Queen to establish his foothold on his throne. With her now gone, His Majesty needs a new puppet to increase his popularity amongst the newer and upcoming Nobles of the next generation. That is where I come in as someone who has close ties with powerful families from my time at the Academy.
"Your Majesty is truly good at flattery. It is no wonder why you are so popular," I said.
"Are you being sarcastic, Lady Charlotte?" King Arundel asked with a slight pout to his face.
I am starting to read the slight changes in his almost never changing facial expression.
"...I am just showing Your Majesty how I am also quite verse in flattery myself," I said.
"...Boaster," King Arundel said in a quiet voice.
Goodness...
Is this person a child?!
"...Petty," I replied in the same tone.
We were suddenly at a Cold War of Silence...
"...The Prince has woken up," King Arundel said to break the silence.
He still has monstrous recovery as ever...
"I see..."
"...Thank you," King Arundel said.
"For what exactly?" I asked.
"If not for your treatment plan, I would have sent my son out to the border of our country only to die slowly from a curse," King Arundel said.
"...I don't understand," I said.
"What is it that you do not understand?" King Arundel asked.
"I have not done anything particularly special, yet I find myself being thanked more times than I am comfortable with," I said.
"You are not comfortable with being thanked, Lady Charlotte?" King Arundel asked.
"I am...a miserable wicked woman," I said.
