Later after the ceremony, we walked to greet the masses. Afterward, we had the reception and greet everyone that came to congratulate us for three days straight. Of course, seeing as how it was our wedding night, the party ended early so that His Majesty and I could spend alone time together.
I was not too worried as we had spent several nights together before with His Majesty just sleeping at my side. I doubt that this night would be any different. When His Majesty entered the room after his bath with the ends of his hair dripping down his shoulders, my body tensed up as if something drastic was going to happen.
"Have you washed up?" His Majesty said as he sat beside me and brushed his fingers through my hair.
"Yes, I have..."
His Majesty was more quiet than usual. It made me feel concerned about what he was going to say next.
"...I am a bit more tired than usual," His Majesty said.
"I feel the same, Your Majesty," I said with a slight laugh.
"...This has always been a concern of mine, but do you remember my name at all?" His Majesty asked.
"Your Majesty King Arundel?" I said.
"...Not that one," His Majesty said.
"...Kiren," I said.
"...Yes, that is the one. Now that we are married, I hope that we can be comfortable around each other. We can start by calling each other by our given names," His Majesty said with a gentle smile.
"Yes..."
"That is one hurdle that we have overcome, Charlotte," His Majesty said as he pat my head.
He is much older than me and could be my father age-wise, but he has a rather calm and gentle demure that is almost like a mother.
If I said this straight to his face, would he get mad at me?
"I hope that you can rely on me more as well. That begins with you telling me why you were crying earlier," His Majesty said as he gripped my head and moved me back and forth as if he was churning butter.
I slapped his hand away and tried to put on airs.
"A lady can have one or two secrets," I said.
"We should at least be open with one another on our wedding night," His Majesty suggested.
"...How do you figure?" I asked.
"Our first night will set the stage for how our wedding will go," His Majesty said.
"There is already a power struggle going on. I doubt that this will fare well," I said.
"...Jokes aside, I can tell that something is weighing on your mind. Your secrets are safe with me," His Majesty said.
"Your Majesty...do you ever feel that the world you are living in is not the correct world you should be living in?" I asked.
"...What a strange topic. There is only one world, is there not?" His Majesty asked.
"I am not sure of your definition of what the 'world' is, but mine centers around the person I love. She is my entire world...my everything. When she is unhappy, it is almost the same as the world chipping off and breaking apart. Can you imagine that very person who was the epicenter of your life dying? It is the same feeling as the world ending. I cannot imagine a colder and more desolate place than living somewhere that has rejected the person I love. That is why...I have been bouncing around realities in search of a world in which she can have a life. Anything else is less than ideal. That is why I found a Witch. She gave me this cursed power of being able to go back in time and correct my mistakes and prevent Arielle from having a miserable fate," I confessed.
