THIRTY NINE
ALMOST THREE WEEKS HAD PASSED since her and James had 'broken up' and Valentine's Day was right around the corner. Everyone was planning their Valentine's Day dates at Hogsmeade, which irritated Annalise tremendously. She was single for the holiday this time, and seeing everyone all giddy and romantic was not what she needed right now.If she wanted a date she could get on by simply asking some bloke in her year, but she couldn't stomach the thought of being on a date.
"We are not going to Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop again." Evan said exasparatedly at Talia. Roxy, Alex, her and Asher were finishing up some work in the library when Evan and Talia had joined them.
"But it's so cute, Evan!" Talia whined, pulling on her boyfriend's robes.
Asher looked at Roxy. "Three Broomsticks?" He asked.
Roxy grinned. "Of course."
Evan groaned. "See!" He gestured to them. Talia glared at him. "Fine." He sighed. "Madam Puddifoot's it is."
Talia beamed in satisfaction. "I love you." She kissed his cheek, ruffling his hair with her hand. Evan grumbled "I love you back."
Annalise couldn't take any more of this. She loved her friends and was happy for their relationships, but everything just made her think of what she and James' had. Except none of it was real, all pretending. But even that make believe world was better than what she was feeling. The heartbreak had subsided since they had ended things, but she still felt that small ache of sadness within her.
She turned to Alex. "I suppose you have a date as well?" She asked him.
"Nope." Alex replied. "Not in the mood this year."
"Looks like it's you, me, and James at Hogsmeade then." Annalise didn't mind that.Like he was summoned, James sat down next to Alex, and turned to face her. "Annalise." He said.
"James." She replied, not sure what he was going to say.
"Remi Blake asked me on a date." Her heart stopped. James had dated Remi back in fourth year for a few months, but she was pretty sure they ended badly. Remi was also a sixth year Gryffindor, but Annalise and her barely interacted.
"Isn't she the one who threw a book at your head when you dumped her?" Alex asked laughing.
James glared at him. "No that was Georgina. Remi just started yelling at me." Aha, she was right. It had ended badly.
